Ever nervous about sending a coin in for regrade?

I collect just Lincolns and have a few I thought might upgrade. However, just the slightest fingerprint can be a huge negative. I worry about the coins being cracked out to be regraded. A print wouldn't show up for a while and then I would be stuck trying to prove PCGS did it.

Yes. I do worry about that. I just hold my breath. I haven't started coppers yet for my collection but I plan on buying every
copper piece sight-seen & preferably in older holders. Maybe that's a bit paranoid but I figure anything that could happen
already will have & I'll never have to worry about surprises.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

I had a 1913 Lincoln come back on a crossover with a print. I sent it back and they removed it for the most part. I would be nervous if were a valuable key date. Take a good pic/scan of the coin before sending it in. My 1913 was an MS64RD so the value was not huge.

    Jack,
On some coins no, but if I had the full red pieces like you have as a lincoln collector, Id be scared to death that they would get mishandled.
I have a few super nice lusterous early nickels that I wont send either for the same reason.

On copper the answer is no, not to mention the miriad of disclaimers that pertain to copper as far as guarantees or lack thereof as far grade retention.

Yes. I'm also nervous about sending in a coin for an initial grade.

And not just about fingerprints, but also being dropped or otherwise mishandled. Or scratched. Or lost in the mail. Or maybe stolen. Or switched accidentally with a similar but inferior piece, etc.

Maybe this is silly paranoia, but I do think about it -

Clackamus: Was that the anacs 64rd 1913 I sold you? What a shame.

  • jdimmick,

Correct. The pieces that I am talking about are absolutely spot free, without a mark on them. It sounds like others have the same concern. So, any suggestions on what to do or should I just leave them alone?
