Can't Find The Coins I Need!!!!

I am having the most impossible time finding any coin that I need for my many sets!!!

It's getting quite frustrating. I've looked at upcoming auctions, I've looked @ dealer websites, I've looked on Ebay and I've looked on the BST Forum. You would think I could find at least 1 coin to purchase.

My sets in progress range from my toned Peace $ (need the 28 & 34-S to complete + I want to upgrade a couple of others) to the 1911 Proof Set (there isn't a single Barber Dime or Half PR63+ to be found) to my raw AU/BU Peace $ set (28, 34, 34-S, 35-S) to a Dansco Type Set where I need 1 coin to finish (Liberty Seated $ No Motto F-VF slabbed) to a 1969 NGC Proof Set (Wash. Quarter NGC PF69UCAM).

NADA, zilch, zippo, gooseegg.

It's amazing. Anyone else having the same problems!!!! With the white hot thermo-nuclear market I would figure that there would be a couple of coins available for sale.

I might have to start buying Modern Commems just so I can satisfy the itch to buy!!!! God please help me.

Sorry for the rant!!!!

Michael

I just swapped a raw AU 1928 Peace dollar to another member, but it was scuffy and a bit polished. I had a raw MS62 1934 Peace dollar in my antique mall booth the last time I was there.

Good luck on the Seated dollar and the 1911 proof set. You'll find those coins eventually, but I can see how they would be a challenge.

  • Yup...I can't find AU 79-CC, 96-S, or 04-S Morgans anywhere.....well there's an AU-50 96-S on ebay, but he wants too much right out the gate.

I had a bear with those seated dollars for my type set too...

    Michael,
I know the feeling, collecting Seated and Bust Dimes, and some other uncommon odds and ends. I was in heaven when I got the recent B&M catalog - whole sets of Seated coins!

You just gotta be patient. It makes the rewards that much greater. Imagine the boredom of collecting Morgans. One could probably put together a complete set at one large show! (major tongue in cheek - no defense necessary guys image )
  • I can find some of the dats I want buut not the untoned nonproblem coins I seek. Most of what I am seeing is low for the grade.

I'm having problems finding certain "common" coins in anything but VG or lower or MS-63 or higher. I just want them in VF to AU, but there aren't any. image

  • You are hardly alone. I've spent hours online searching for several coins ... here on the Boards, eBay, Auction houses, dealer sites. Can't find some offered at all - others I find, but at prices that make me want to lower my goals (ain't gonna happen!).

Been running this one in the BST forum almost a month now:

    Thread Title: WTB - Barber half - PCGS MS63+ - 1901-1915
Created On Saturday June 12, 2004 10:55 PM

I look at the Pop numbers for some of these and simply can't imagine where they all are hiding ... There are not that many collectors! Some person or persons unknown (with lots of money) knows what I'm looking for and doesn't want me to get them!

Speaking of hoarding ... HEY RUSS ... I got one of your 68 Accented Hair tokens!
  • Alaska Coin has a nice 1911 ICG PR64 Cameo dime that is pretty nice.

Welcome to the, "I cant find a coin I need," club. I've been there for about three months. I've even reverted to starting a lesser (raw) set.

I'm thinking MS63 raw WLH short set in the Dansco Album. I'm sure these won't be a killer to find, shouldn't be too expensive and might be challenging while I'm waiting around for the others to show up.

    Just gotta be patient!

Sounds a lot like waiting for nice R5+ bust halves!

Careful what you collect. There are a lot of common coins that are common only because there
was no demand and finding them can be frustrating. Finding them raw is far more difficult.

Collecting is bone dry for me. I have decided to collect world gold bullions coins, just to sate that coin addiction I have. Otherwise, I would be pulling the trigger on junk and crap coins, just to keep buying. I did it just this week and spent $500.00 on two ANACS slabbed pieces of SH*T!! God I hate ANACS!

Coins used to come along faster than I could afford them. It's been a real dry spell lately.

You are not by yourself. I have been looking for a nice, original 1839-D quarter eagle in AU53 to AU58 for three years. I have seen a few, but they are butt ugly, highly abraded, scratched, or some other kind of problem. I have people looking for me, but to no avail.

I have the same feeling. I need a Large size bust quarter in XF, a 1860 Indian Cent in MS-64, a draped bust dime in G-4. The coins out there are few and far between.
