Am I the only one stupid enough to put coin pictures in my sets?

So am I the only one stupid enough to put coin pictures in my sets?
I noticed that hardly anyone ever puts photos of their pride and joys up
in the registry sets. Why not?
Is there a good reason to not do so? Maybe I should be like the other guys and remove all my photos too.

I put pics on my coins. I havent gotten to most of the 1934-1958 dates yet. But most of my early dates are there. I even have pics of my NGC coins on my own web space.

All of my sets have pictures up. That's cause I like to look at the coins, and I'm hoping everybody else will take the hint. Hint, hint. image

Like here. And here. And here.

    Lucious coin there, David!

I've got some of my coins imaged. I'm currently using a scanner. I want to get a digital camera, but keep dragging my feet. image

Here's one of my Type Sets that have some nice images.

Here's my Large Cent Set. I'm expecting 2 more for this set in a few days or so. Perhaps before I add them I can imaged them and the rest of the coins in the set.

If you like Bust Dollars, you'll like the Cardinal Collection of Bust Dollars. Great eye candy.

Edited to say: Thanks to you, earlwbollinger, I got off my butt and imaged the 4 remaining large cents in my set. Hopefully I'll keep the 2 coming within the next few days and add them too.

  • I have images up for every morgan in my registry set. I think most people do not have photos due to a lack of photography equipment and/or skill.

I keep dragging my feet as well....just never figured out how to do it.
I am one of those people that have a hard time with the "computer age" stuff.image
Surely, I will figure it out one day!image

    For me it is time.

Most of the coins are at the bank and several hundred coins later.....

I have started and stopped several times but with three kids, I would rather spend time with them instead of imaging the coins. Hopefully I will get to it but it is a low priority right now.

  • Thanks guys it makes me feel better. For a while I started to get the idea that maybe it was a bad idea.
I like to look at the coins too.
Having photos or images helps a lot, as I don't have to go get them out of the safe to look at them.
Besides I always felt that it is a nice way to share them with others who might have an interest as well.
I started to get in the habit of scanning all the coins I get in as I get them in, thus I don't have to scan them all at once.
Very important, backup your coin images often, in case your compuiter crashes.

Now if the top rated sets would only put some pics of their coins in the registry.

I don't have a camera, but I post the picture of coins that I buy from a picture!

Keyrock: I'd love to see photos of your 14-d and 25-s Lincolns! They sound nice!

Here's the 27-s I just bought (B+M image). (wish me luck it's as nice as the photo!)

Time & Knowledge are the problem areas of me.

Does anyone want to go over the best way to post photos on the Registry?

Not enough time and to many coins, with work and a family I barely have time to collect. I'm am not selling my coins unless I upgrade it first so at some point it will happen. I love looking at the sets that do have there coins imaged so keep up the good work.

I have images listed for this set: Linky to barber half set

Also, this set: Linky for 1904 Proof Set

Most of the images are from a scanner. The scanner provides exacting detail, but not the color and luster. The digital images show better color and luster but are a bit harder to focus exactly. I plan to get all photographed by digital camera with composite images of obverse and reverse, but time is the biggest factor.

I find that trying to get digital photography skills is just another interesting part of this hobby. I had coins that sat in the safety deposit box for years. No one saw the coins. With digital, now we can share the collections without having to risk the coins being in the open. I think it builds collector interest.

I try to get photos of all my coins into the registry.

I always put pics up when I had Reg sets. Like you implied, it seems rather strange not to show pictures of your pride and joy.

Nothin' stupid there, as I see it.

Hey..I think it's great that you have pics with your registry set! I was just able to put mine on a few weeks ago.

Seems like some people has a lack of time and/or resources/skill to be able to include pics. Kudos to everyone who can and does!

I used to do it but it takes alot of time and no one seems to care. So I quit.

  • I have to admit I'm guilty of not putting images up of my sets. Mainly due to embarrassment at my lack of skill with the digital camera medium (I'm an old fashioned maunal SLR guy when it comes to photography) but as soon as I crack the art of good digital photos I will be on there. And yes I know there is an abundance of advice on here and I follow it to the letter but I still get blurry blobs instead of crisp coins
