The trouble is, these virgins lose their virginity quickly when they come out of the ground, as it is usually necessary to clean them.
However, I can think of three or four examples where a coin came out of the ground so pristine that only a gentle soap-and-water rinse was was necessary. One particular 1910 Barber dime I have comes to mind, though I have no picture of it.
This old token came out of the ground looking like this, and was surprisingly shallow. Considering how big it is and how heavily hunted the park it came out of was, it is all the more surprising. Maybe the other detectorists disregarded the loud signal it made because they thought it was an aluminum can. Anyway, a little Vaseline was all it needed.
One of my more noteworthy coin finds was also very nice when it came out of the ground, though I cannot now claim it is 100% original. I could have left it alone after a simple rinse, but it had been buried in reddish clay soil and I confess I used a little toothpaste on it to get some of the strange looking reddish color off of it.
Original and pretty.
Nice coins folks.
Ask me no questions, I'll tell you no lies.
FOR SALE Items
The color's a perfect medium brown, with darkening on the high points making it about EF40-EF45, and not a mark on it! A nice ebay find for just $75, ($20 if some hadn't have tried to snipe it!) The seller actaully called it VG (!) For those wondering, it's a N3. The marks you see towards the top are on the slab, not the coin.
