The PCGS PO01 Chain cent challenge!

lordmarcovanlordmarcovan Posts: 43,530 ✭✭✭✭✭
I'm paying $1.56!

Sorry I can't offer a bigger bounty, but that's all that's in my pocket at the moment. That amount has to cover the purchase of the coin, too. I challenge anyone to find a Chain cent in a PCGS PO01 slab. Yeah, I know they are out there. But the tricky part of the challenge is finding someone who'll sell it to me for $1.56 in modern change. image

Think you're up to the challenge? Oh, BTW, as a special bonus, one of the nickels in my pocket is a BU Lewis & Clark commem. And you (or the seller of the Chain cent) would also get one slightly-used pocket comb, a teeny piece of lint, and a Jolly Rancher candy wrapper.

Sorry, this one isn't for sale even at your extremely generous offer - but it is a PCGS PO01......

And just in case there's too much glare on the clear holder above, here's another PO01 in a white holder......

LM, I'd say you owe Colorfulcoins $1.56, he met your first challenge. You said <<I challenge anyone to find a Chain cent in a PCGS PO01 slab.>> Trying to get someone to sell it to you for $1.56 was mentioned later and would be a second challenge. image

Can any of you guys tell me what exactly is a PO01 grade?
  • The lowest possible grade on the sheldon grading scale, Poor 1....any further wear to a coin and it would be unrecognizable as a coin..Correct me if i'm wrong.image
  • POOR 01, the lowest grade you can get, just below Fair 02

Thanks for the information. I usually don't even pay attention to coins unless they are vf and above.

Just had a "nice" one in the last Bowers sale. I considered bidding on it cause the Chain was so strong and it was so interesting. You could probably see a photo and get the price realized on the B&M website.
