Who else is sending coins to NGC because of 60 day wait?

Just curious....I admit the PCGS bump in price is not worth the time it takes these days. I'm a small guy so my inventory is small and the turnaround time is more important than the BRAND NAME. Anyone else in this boat?? When will PCGS get the clue??? We need our grades in a timely matter.

I know, it's apples and oranges, but...
I sent a (14) coin submission to ANACS, economy, which they rec'd on 12 May.
I called this morning as to it's status.
Sitting down? Your coins may be ready, mid August...
    We're very, very busy.

I sent in two orders to PCGS and one to NGC late May. I've had the NGC coins for about a week now; still nothing on the PCGS orders. Like you I'm small but I wnated to use the free submission and the other order is just for my collection so no big deal on that one.

I talked to a local dealer today that usually submits to PCGS quite frequently, he stated that he is going to be using NGC in the mean time, due to the return times getting so long.

  • 60 days is nothing. I messed up with ANACS and sent in a bunch for economy last May, they told me to expect the coins back in September!! image

I think it would depend on if you are trying to sell the coins or just put them in your collection. If you are not selling keep them raw or go with NGC.

But if you are selling, go with PCGS. I tried NGC and the selling price was quite a bit less than the same coin graded by PCGS. Now I am talking coins from 1957 to today, but the sale price made up for the wait IMO.

I went to a coin show on Sunday and bought 2 very PQ rare coins. I had to decide today weather to send them to PCGS or NGC. NGC has a $50 48 hour Express service. PCGS has a $50 service express also that takes about 1-2 weeks depending on shows...blah, blah, blah. If you have to turn coins this is a no brainer. The 10-15% difference in prices do not make a difference if $$ and turnaround times are slow. Don't mean to beach but bizness is bizness. Maybe someday PCGS will be more competitive.

Lablover- It's a fact that PCGS will bring more $$ than NGC in many cases. But in non-modern coins NGC coins are very competetive with PCGS coins. If you deal coins often times you can't justify the longer times if you need the money to stay in bizness. Fax is fax. Sometimes you have to use alternate means to achieve your goals. The market determines your success based on demand and perception of quality.

not me. plastic is plastic, i don't care how long it takes to stick a coin in it.

  • I've put several coins over the last year into NGC plastic and think I'll send my next batch to ANACS (Bust coinage and attractively toned common date morgans). The stuff I'm sending to ANACS is pieces that I may sell in the coming year or two. But I won't sell them on eBay either. I'll post them once here and if that doesn't fly I'll take them to a show. I'd rather save the fees nows and haggle over the holder anyway. If I can't sell the coin because of the plastic I'd prefer not to do biz with the buyer anyway.

I didn't renew my collector's club membership, instead I joined the NGC club the last time my membership expired. As it happens, my NGC membership elapses at the end of this month. Time to choose again..hmm PCGS still takes a godawful long time to grade the coins, charges more, and NGC grades faster, is cheaper, and even gives a discount for entering the submission online. Also, you get an additional free grading for joining NGC. I think I'll just renew and keep slabbing my coins in plastic bars of soap.
  • I recently sent some to NGC due to all of the talk about PCGS wait times. I don't quite need instant gratification, but...
