mike wheat cards, be very careful with their auctions

i recently purchased a 1971 milk duds handcut card from mike wheat on ebay.
their auction ad said card was NM, it looked like it might fly for a psa grade for my johnny bench master set.
i receive card and it has a large stain on reverse (see scan) defitnitly not NM and forget psa grading.
i call and tell them whats up and they say sure send it back we`ll refund your purchase price.
heres the rift, i had to pay for shipping twice, once to get it , and once to send their card back.
i, of course, had to eat that cost. (around $8.00) i email them and ask them why with their knowledge of cards would they not notice
and list this stain in their auction ad, unless they knew listing the stain would ruin any chance at selling that card.
they were willing to take the chance that nobody would bother returning the card or if they did, they would pay for everything and they would get card back . they would not return my emails to explain this oversight.
expect to this item up for sale shortly.

IMO, thats a shady business practice , will not purchase anything from them in future. BE AWARE !

  • i've never liked Mike Wheat, and i've never liked having to sift through his 10000 listings of crap on free listing day. half the time he lists stuff on canada's site as part of their free listing day. he's in america though. isn't that against ebay rules?

    Good for you.

His grading and prices are often ridiculous.

he is just a plain joke, he is in cards purely for one reason only... MONEY
  • Yes, I've had that happen too, buying t206 cards and finding out that even though they look mint, they were once glued in a book.
Now that sucks, sometimes he doesn't even offer a scan and makes you wonder should I risk it...hmmmm?

Good question! I doubt it but just give a few and..... Remember a bunch of months back when legitimate criticisms were voiced and Sandlot came out of no where...guns blazing!
So fasten your seat belt and.....

Bought 8 (I think) 63/64 Parkhurst hockey listed as NM-MT from him awhile back.

    All came back PSA 8.

Yeah, now I know who he is. He also lists crap in "pounds" yet he's in America? That makes no sense.

What is it with people who have the initials "MW"?

Lee, I think I bought the same 1971 Milk Duds card you returned to Wheat (haven't received it yet). The auction said it would have been NM but for staining on the reverse. Maybe they added the disclaimer after the experience with you.

I didn't mind the stain too much because I wasn't buying it with the intention of asking PSA to add it to the already supersized Bench master registry. I just thought it was a cool oddball Bench item. I don't know what you paid, but I paid $30 inc. shipping.

What do you think it would grade at with the stain? And are there Milk Duds cards without Milk Duds stains on them?

I bought some cards from Mike Wheat almost a month ago. They arrived and I was satisfied--I even emailed him and told him so--but he is pushing my "pet peeve" button by still no feedback left for me (I paid the same day as the auctions via Paypal).

I see he has left hundreds of feedback for other buyers since then--but none for me. I shall not buy from him again unless he decides my immediate Paypal payment deserves at least one feedback (I won 4 auctions).

Different strokes for different folks-- I see some of you have other issues with him--but I wonder how many other repeat buyers he loses by the small things like feedback. I see he has lost many other buyers for other (more important) reasons.

Oh well-there are certainly many other vintage dealers on the bay. Good luck to all.

  • have you emailed him asking for your feedback? if so and he has not done so I understand. If you have not people make mistakes and espically people who deal in a lot of auctions. let me know I am curious if you have asked or just ranting about a dealer making amistake. Thanks in advance. Also I want you to know I fully AGREE with you if you have emailed him about it

Mostly a rant--When I emailed him to say I had received the cards and was satisfied, I said if he wishes to leave feedback for me, I would return the favor and probably would bid on more auctions. Maybe he didn't read the entire email (which would be slack)--but I feel he is simply holding my feedback hostage--as if there was some reason I was going to neg him after he left my positive.

    Maybe he is slack
    Maybe he made a mistake
Maybe he is a paranoid seller

If any case, I will not bid again simply because of my "pet peeve" issue regarding the feedback.

  • I'm so happy that Ebay has now been wiped so clean of fraud that we can now go after dealers whose crime is missing a feedback. I thought the bad spellers would be next but you got to start somewhere.

Thanks for your support Carmine--and if you failed to read my posts, it said it was "Pet Peeve" of mine--and that other issues were definately more important (like fraud). I am not "going after" anyone--I simply will not bid again. I posted on this thread since Mike Wheat was being discussed. I'm sorry if you took any offense that I decided to post about my experiences with him. Should I PM you first before making any other posts on these boards? Just to make sure I don't offend your sense of priorities regading the world of eBay?

  • I too find it annoying when I pay promptly and don't get feedback. I mean what gives? Especially after I've given them feedback...
