There have been a few upgrades, but it's been a long time since I had an addition to my set. This one, which comes courtesy of Wayne (Remumc), is a '25-D in 64FB. It doesn't change my position in the standings, but it feels good to be down to just 3 coins to complete the set. I won't be in the market for the '16-D or '21-P in the near future, but if a nice '26-D comes along, I'll be on it. image

p.s. The bands are stronger than they appear to be in the photo.

Nice. It looks to have a decent strike for a 1925 coin. Nice clear D, I like that alot.

BTW I have a great 26D (Tee Hee) but it is staying home. Nope it is not the 63FB coin I had before.

    Take Care.

Had to chuckle at that Purple Puke Icon. Is it available here ? Needs to be bigger for better effect.

OK, Ken, fess up! What are you hiding? All I'm looking for is a '26-D in 64, 64FB, or 65 with good eye appeal. I'm really surprised that it's one of the Final Three for me. Before I started collecting Mercs, it seemed to be the most common mintmarked dime from 1917-1927. I'll bet you have a huge hoard of the blasted things! image No? Oh well, I'll just have to be more diligent in my search. The '21-P will be next after that. The timing depends on my financial situation after moving to Florida this fall. Maybe I'll get lucky at next January's FUN show, which will be just 25 miles down the coast in Fort Lauderdale.

No Huge hoard but I did sock a few away. The 26D is MS65 and in a NGC slab but was in a PCGS slab. It came from Jom who bops in every once in awhile here. Tony got a coin from him also. Jom has only Nice, Very Nice, OK Excellent Mercs. One of these days I will dig it out of the Bank and try to get a Nice picture of it.

    Marc,

    Sorry 'bout that. Really! image

The '25-D certainly seems to be hard to find. Wasn't there a hoard of '24-D's and '25-D's found at Yale University years ago? I hope you're able to get one of those; I'll bet they're great coins.

    Thanks Marc.

I'll remember it the next time I see a Kennedy.....image All I could find was Mr Disgust. Lets see if this is him.

    Hi Jim,

I'm glad you like the dime. Sorry Marc, but Jim pulled the trigger first!

I have sold the balance of my collection to a board member, including the core pieces that I had intended to keep as a nucleus for a new and better set. At present, I only have a measley 39-D in 65FB, which was a gift from Grip.

Not to worry. I am starting over from scratch, and intend to build an even better set. I already have 2 new dimes that should arrive within the next 14 days. I have learned a lot from my first attempt, and hope to use that to build an even better set. I won't be a contender for a long time, as I'm going for the difficult ones first this time.

    Regards,

    Wayne

    Jim,

Well done! The race goes to the persistent in the long run. It is also good to hear that Wayne is assembling another set. Once you are a Mercateer, you have to come back.
