Just returned from running the Baltimore Coin and Currency Convention and we
were extremely pleased with both the dealer and public turnout and all the
reports received about extremely strong business dealers told us about all
weekend. Many dealers were very surprised that we were able to bring in as
many dealers and a strong public turnout for a summer Baltimore Show, and
even more surprised at the amount of business going on at the Convention.
This was our first summer Convention and we had expected it to be a lot
smaller due to many dealers being on vacation at this time of year, but we
were able to fill most of those tables with new dealers, and we came pretty
close to filling out the entire show. We did have a few no-shows, and a couple
last minute medical cancellations, but for the most part a few neighboring
dealers were able to fill up most of the tables that dealers did not show up for.
Business was amazing brisk all weekend, and many dealers told us they did
more business on Friday (by double) then they had expected to do all weekend.
Friday's public attendance was pretty amazing and it may have been a record
for Friday attendance for our Convention. Saturday's attendance was a bit less
than Friday, but still very strong and the public was doing a lot of buying and
selling. We also had many reports of very strong business on Sunday from
those dealers who stayed, and overall we are extremely pleased with the show.
We also had many compliments from both dealers and the public about the
quality of food at the snack bar (which is very unusual for a coin show) and
many of our dealers and guests were happy to be in Baltimore when the weather
was warm so they could take time out to tour the Inner Harbor and take their
families to the many historical sites and popular attractions in the area.
Over 300 youngsters received their Free Hand Full of Money, and each youngster
got a 2004 Red Book, magnifiers, and other numismatic goodies. We thank all
the dealers and collectors who helped us keep the Kid's Bucket filled up. At the
end of the show there was just about enough left in the bucket for a few more
kids, and we passed along the remaining Red Books and Quarter Boards to the
Baltimore Coin Club for their Y-N Program.
We also want to thank Steve Bates and Patti Finner for all their help with the
Boys Scout and Girl Scout Coin Collecting Merit Badge programs and want to
extend a special thanks to our set-up crews and show workers who helped
make this Convention one of the easiest Conventions for us to run.
We also had a record number of dealers (both those that attendend and those
that were on vacation) already sign up for our December 3-5, 2004 Convention,
and we are presently putting any new contracts that come in on a waiting list
until we can determine if we have space or not for any additional tables.
Thanks to all that attended and did business. Ed Kuszmar
