Celtic Coins

I've just gotten started on coin collecting and I am mainly focusing on US coins. However, I have a strong interest in Celtic history. I would like to know about the availability and price range of Celtic coinage, coins used by Celts, or otherwise found at a Celtic site. I would be grateful for any information that you post or links to sites concerning this topic.

  • Here's some dealers who carry Celtic coins. Vcoins

    Celtic coin index
  • The coin index is very interesting, but most of the coins there arn't for sale. Thank you.

I'm interesetd in the less than $60 range for most coins. Aparently you can get some pretty nice celtic coins for that.
  • If you look at the V-coins link you should be able to find some dealers.
  • I did thank you. Are the prices listed by these dealers realatively fair? I have no experiance in buying anceint coins and I dont realy know what to expect in terms of grade and price.

  • Dan, I'd rather let someone with more experience answer as far as prices.

Welcome, Dan!! Steve's link will give you many pointers. There tends to be more information available on British Celtic coinage, with the Celts of western France being a little less so. The most inexpensive Celtic coins, though, seem to come from the Balkan/Black Sea area.

I haven't bought many in recent years, so I can't speak to prices other than to say you can find a lot of the commoner types up to Fine or VF for $60 or less. Simple wheel and ring coins can be had dirt cheap (many being recently dug, in factimage); knob coins will go for somewhat more, depending on their complexity, completeness scarcity.
