I'm not usually one to hype stuff up (or at least I try not to), but this thing is worthy of being called a monster.
These Soho Mint gilt copper proofs were almost certainly special presentation pieces. Their mintage is not listed, but there weren't very many, and I guarantee you there cannot be more than a very small handful of this quality.
This coin has it all in terms of visual impact- nice mirrors, cameo contrast, large size (it's almost the size of a silver dollar), and it looks like a piece of proof gold. (It IS a piece of proof gold, in a way.) A truly remarkable 199-year-old proof coin. It's holdered with the Irish harp to the front (as is correct for Irish coins, in my opinion) and that ol' tyrant George has been sent to the back. I've had a gilt proof halfpenny in the past, and it was nice, but the full penny is all the more impressive.
It was from boiler78's collection. I believe he got it from Northeast Numismatics, and if I recall correctly, the original pricetag was somewhere in the neighborhood of $850. I got it in a trade with him and fully intended to hang onto it, but have decided I need the money instead. In fact, I still owe him quite a bit on the trade, but might be setting him up with a metal detector in lieu of my debt. I would probably use the funds I got from this to upgrade to a fancier detector, if Mark takes my coinshooting machine. (Anybody have a relatively new Spectrum XLT or Fisher CZ-7?)
After parting with all of the high-end coins in my personal collection, this is the last remaining one. My last "Big Gun".
Do I hear any offers of $765 postpaid? If not, I am perfectly content to keep it. If you do decide to take a chance on it, I'll offer a full return privilege in case you don't love the coin as much as I do. But I have the feeling that once this baby is gone, its new owner will probably hang on to it pretty tight. (If he or she appreciates Irish coins even half as much as I do).
There is also an icon of this coin already uploaded, so you can wear it proudly without waiting until Upload Day. (It's "boiler icon 6" in the database.)

Of course, this is only gilt and not solid gold, but regardless of the composition, it is a 199-year-old Cameo Proof coin. Even if it didn't look like gold, it would still be impressive!
They did make bronzed proofs of these, too, but in my opinion the gilt coins are the most stunning and way flashier.
ps. beautiful coin!
