Some things I found that I forgot about

Hello,

In ,oh god, 1979 or 80 my dad got me into collecting stamps. I had 2 mint sets, 1 of 1979 and 1 of 1980. The 1980 had gotten broken up but I still have the 1979. Its completely flat and in perfect shape. I checked about 10 years ago to see if it was worth anything and I was told from the dealer to lick'em and stick'em. I most certainly wasn't gonna do that because to me it's a sentimental piece "my first mint set ever".

About 3 days ago I was digging through some old boxes that my mom put away and found my album of stamps. Not the mints set I mentioned above but my old album with alot of single stamps in it. I Started flipping through my album and I noticed that one great big sheet of stamps were missing. The description is "FITFH INTERNATIONAL PHILATELIC EXHIBITION" underneath of that it says "souvenir sheet". I remember my dad buying this thing when I was little(6 years old) but now it was gone.

This kinda bummed me out because this was another one of those sentimental things. I went ahead and started digging through the rest of the box and found this little booklet. "Let' Collect Stamps" it reads on the cover by Ervin J. Felix. I remember getting this book at 6 and trying to read it LOL. I started to thumb through the pages and found an old envelope in the middle of this book. I opened up the envelope to see what was in side and my god, it was that souvenir sheet! I about died LOL. It is perfectly flat and still has all of the adhesive on the backside. Also in the envelope was a blue 10c stamp that has foreign writing but says down the right side "Electric Locomotive"

What kind of brough this post about was the one stamp that member GQ had posted in a different post. Here it is:

I've got one of these babies in my album. Except mine isn't perfed all the way around. On one side its straight cut like it came from a block. I dunno anything about stamps but I got a lot of them in my album. Probably not woth nuttin just thought I would share a small stamp story.

I collect coins now. My brother was collecting coins while I was collecting stamps and like an idiot he sold them all. I'm in the process of rebuilding what he had and themsome. I'm about 75% complete. Just a few more pieces is all I need.

PURPLE!

***********EDIT******** Found one on Ebay. Just like what I have

  • unfortunatly you will find that even Mint stamps after 1940 are nearly worthless !

  • Nothing with sentimental value is worthless.
  • Purple....nice thread. Thanks for showing my stamp! I'll get back very soon with the grades.

Hey Proof...how's it going. You got to give it a rest with the late '40's stuffimage. But you got it right...it's the pre war stuff and earlier where it begins to get tough.

Boots has it right too...just have fun.

    The Zeps came back:

    C13 XF/Sup 95
C14 VF 75 (ultra light crease in upper right corner)
    C15 XF90 (huh?)

Oh well....I'm going to keep them just as is. Thanks for watching..

  • I took a real dusting here. A super light crease in the upper right margin dinged me. Oh well. One small fault out of three used stamps isn't too bad. The stamp still Is What It Is....

    Enjoy your stamps.....

    Hi GQ,

Your welcome for showing your stamp(Very nice indeed). It's funny that you had one posted on here at the time I wrote my post. Those are some pretty neat stamps ya got there! I really like stamps but I'm way too into to coins. Ever since my bro sold his(dad's) set I've been image

    Hi 100proof1957,

Thanks for the info on the monetary value of my possesion. When it's your first mint set ever it's kinda hard to let go whether its worth 1C or $1,000,000, in the end does the money really matter? You will decide.

    Hi Laceupboots,

You are exactly correct. At 6 years old, getting that set was like receiving a big 'ole bag of candy bars LOL.
  • Purple73,
