Ebay auction #3920506810

I think Copy has been dug out of the back.

Again just an opinion.

Considering his/her other auctions I'd be wary, especially to see something that nice unslabbed and in the flesh.
    Prost!

Why step over the dollar to get to the cent? Because it's a 55DDO.

    Phoney-baloney.

Yes, copy has been scratched out. And isn't it just a little too round?

Guy- Not to worry. One of our own is "on the case". This one will NOT be sold to the unsuspecting.

In fact, I believe the Seller is in for a rude awakening. image

Hmm. Weird. None of the links to the guy's feedback are showing, despite the fact that he does not appear to have a private feedback rating. (He just makes his auctions private to "protect the customers' identities". Uh-huh.)

"It's a nice authentic old and rare coin." What "it?" Sure a REAL coin is old and rare, but the crap in that auction is not. That is terrible, and criminal.
    I brake for ear bars.
  • Wow, and a no return policy for something that expensive!
  • lordmarcovanlordmarcovan Posts: 43,530 ✭✭✭✭✭
Anybody who would bid on that deserves what they'll get, in my opinion. But it would still be nice to see this dirtbag seller go down in flames. If that happens, y'all bring the hotdogs and marshmallows and I'll bring the skewers!

  • And the bidders IDs are kept private so no one can contact them or they can't contact each other. I won't bid in auctions anymore where the bidders IDs are kept private.

This auction was discussed a few days ago. At that time I warned the seller that it was a Royal Oak Mint reproduction. After two days I received no reply and the auction was not changed or pulled so I then notified ebay through their ebay/ana coin sellers report link. I included an explaination of what the piece was, a link to an image of an unaltered piece on Royal Oak Mints website, and my qualifications for making the identifications. That was this aternoon. We'll see if anything happens.

Seller has a neg from a week ago... same deal.

Feedback: 1942/1-P Mercury Dime-word COPY made unreadable & sold as Authentic- BEWARE
Reply by seller: Coin is authentic. They're lying. What more can I say?

And from the day previous to the feedback above:

Feedback: I was told via email authentic...IT'S NOT!- IT'S FAKE! I'M OUT $100+!! AVOID!!!!
Reply by seller: Coin is authentic. Showed buyers remorse before even receiving coin.

I guess we can look forward to many more of these if ebay allows it to go on.

  • couldn't this guy just come back with another name if that one gets removed? it all seems too easy for them (the scammers)
  • This appears to me to be a secondary account for this bozo, member since 12/04/02
all of his feedback has been since FEB 2004,umm 14 months and no action then BAM

I sincerely hope the high bidder isn't really a dope - he just posted to this thread. : )

That member likes to violate eBay rules a LOT! Check out these auctions:
    Auction #1
    Auction #2
    Auction #3
He claims they don't violate eBay policy, but they look to be on awful shaky ground IMO.

Update - the generous seller just ended the listing early in order to sell to the current high bidder. The bidder has already thanked him with appropriate feedback. image

Thank goodness for knowledgable high bidders! I wonder how quickly the seller went from being elated to "D'oh!"

I suspect we'll be seeing an encore performance of this "coin" real soon on ebay.

    Is that too harsh?

Looks like the seller just changed their name. Too bad their feedback history with the "fake" comments are still with them.

And I love the new feedback -- looks like someone got them to end the auction early with the express intent of immediately slamming them with a negative that the coin's a fake. And, of course, the obligatory retaliatory negative given 14 minutes later.

  • Ya gotta love "therealcoinguy1". Nice job, whomever that masked-man is......image

  • I hope than when the winner is contacted by eBay that he 'mistakenly' tells eBay that he paid for and received the item and that the seller fees should not be refunded.

    By accident, of course.

Let's look at some of the classic rarities this seller has sold on ebay recently. I do not know if any of the buyers ended up out any money.

Reverse of 1942/1 Merc. "The coin does have some damage on the reverse." Sold for $345.
    image

Reverse of 1877 Indian Head cent. "probably grades at almost uncirculated condition" Sold for $1276.50
    image

Reverse of 1916-D Merc. "probably grades at almost uncirculated condition" Sold for $3050.
    image

Man, this guy has horrible luck. All those nice coins, all of which have odd mutilations in one area of the reverses!

  • Wow, didnt realize you can buy positive feedback!
  • Gotta love his reply...

"Reply by coinsandstuff2: Coin is authentic. They left this the instant the auction ended.Bid to harass"

    God, what a tard.
  • isnt this type of thing,oh in about 50 states a felony ?
how bout the secret service ?

  • reply to him with a TinyURL that links to the galery mint site that shows the cent with "COPY" on it, and mention it's the same thing with "COPY" scratched off.

I would very much appreciate it if some of you folks would also report this seller (with a history of selling copies as real coins) to Ebay- the more, the better. Maybe Ebay will do something about him.
  • Click here to report to eBay.

Scroll to the bottom and click the " Report listing violations or problems with another eBay member" link.

    Enter the item number........

Done. It's the least we can do for someone taking a neg to bust up a scam.

    I don't know who to believe -

    therealcoinguy1 with a 97.8% positive feedback or coinsandstuff2 with a 97.1% positive feedback. image

BTW how does one become a Power Screwer with only 128 feedback rating?

    Joe.

Just finished reporting him and I included the auction numbers for the other fake coins as well.

  • << <i>BTW how does one become a Power Screwer with only 128 feedback rating? >>

The "Power Seller" status is given out to those who maintain a certain amount of sales volume (dollars) over a 3 month period of time. It has nothing to do with the amount of feedback.

  • ziggy29ziggy29 Posts: 18,668 ✭✭✭
I have a question; it's probably in the eBay TOS somewhere, but I'm feeling lazy.

Is it against the rules to include the item number in the feedback? That way, if the seller tries to hide it, people could search on the item number and find it and see for themselves what a scammer this is.
  • Reported... ^_^
  • I reported it also. The seller shouldn't just get banned from Ebay, he should get banned from society (jail).

  • I agree that he should be reported to the real authorities. Getting kicked (even tho last I read here he wasn't yet) is NOT punishment enough. I am not God, but aren't there laws? I hope the ANA folks are on top of this, and can get this guy prosecuted if the coin is indeed a fake. Have they been contacted?
