Is a Field of Dreams COA good enough or do I need to send it to PSA/DNA

I have 2 items that I bought from Field of Dreams in the past and wondered if I need to submit these to PSA/DNA to possibly increase the price I might get on eBay. The items are:

1. A Spaulding leather basketball signed by Celtics greats Bob Cousy, Bill Russell, John Havlicek, Larry Bird, K.C. Jones and Red Auerbach. It is limited to 66 and this one is #31. All signatures are perfect.

2. A limited edition of 500 Celtics Legacy I art work lithograph with the signatures of Red Auerbach, Bob Cousy, John Havlicek, Bill Russell and Tom Heinsohn. This is number 171/500. I even have a letter signed by the late Rudy LaRusso concerning my payment for this lithograph. He worked for the agency that produced these Legacy I lithographs of the Celtics and Lakers.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I personally think a Field of Dreams COA is good enough, keep in mind though that they tend to buy their stuff 2nd hand. In fact, a company called Wall Stars does a lot of their framing and even provides them the material that is framed in a lot cases. Usually jerseys and prints. They always seem to have cool stuff, albeit ridiculously priced most of the time. Personally though, I would say their COA is fine but adding another opinion wouldn't hurt the value if you are looking to sell. Keep in mind though, that price you already paid, on top of PSA/DNA authenticating it (again) is probably going to make the initial investment worth quite a bit more than the value of the piece...at least in the short term. So my advice is, if you are looking to sell right away, try to sell without PSA/DNA and see if anyone balks or what the estimated realized price would be. If you are going to hang on to it for a long time then the investment in PSA/DNA might be worthwile...otherwise if someone balks about the authenticity it might be worth it, however it's another investment in the same piece that may be difficult to get back just because of FOD sometimes ridiculous pricing.

By the way, wall stars is on the web I think..try www.wallstars.com maybe???

  • envoy98, thanks for the info. I do not expect to get back my investment, as you stated FOD prices are way up there. I checked out your website and nice items you have. In your opinion what do you think I could realize in prices for these two items? I know opinions are only opinions, but I will be selling these soon.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the compliment, I appreciate it.

To your question, there are others on here much better suited to giving an estimate as to the value of an item like this than I. I wouldn't have the foggiest idea what to value it at. I would take a look at what SS balls of each of the mentioned players sells for and then go from there. But I don't know if you adjust up or down or if there is any real significance to having all on the same ball as opposed to each on a SS ball. So I'll defer that question to others.

  • Waiting for the expects in this field to comment. Maybe I should consign to Sportscards Plus next auction.

  • Hey Ed,

I live near Sports cards plus, and been there many times and I've even trying to have them auction off a few items, alot of autograph need to be PSA/DNA certified or they won't touch it. Personally I think it will be in your advantage to sent it to them to make sure they autographs are real. However lately there service has been very slow lately and response time has seen better days. I decided myself to stop sending them stuff for awhile, since they keep losing everything I send them.
