How can I tell if a 98 Playoff Prestige football card is Hobby or Retail? Thanks for any replies.

The card pack and or Box usually states Hobby/Retail. At least they do currently I do not know if they did as far back as 98.
I will dig a little more.
I believe that the BACKS of the cards are the way to tell. The PLAYER PICTURE is the same for each, but the backgrounds differ.
On retail, there is a "regular picture", like the player was on the field - looks like a normal action shot.
On hobby, there is a SINGLE COLOR, kinda "diamond-shaped" foil pattern in the background. I know you need a pic to accurately see what I'm talking about - but just remember - solid pattern = hobby,.....picture in background = retail.
If you send me a scan, I'll be happy to look at it for you.

Ben Coates *HOBBY* version:
Mark Brunell *RETAIL* version:
Hope that helps!

Thats what I meant - I see you put up a red parallel of Ben Coates.
You can easily see the difference between the "hobby" and "retail" versions in the background!

thicker cards while the retail were thin and cheap. I might also add that there were a few special
retail releases, green cards I do believe, I remember getting a few packs at a 7-11. Retail cards are
half the price of hobby. Again the above pics are all you will need..the Coats actually will have a backgound
on it that looks like Qbert....(assuming you remember that game!)
Good Luck

Q-BERT - I never even thought of that! I loved that game, and the Prestige cards are one of my favorite modern sets!
Love those thicker-stock cards!

Having never seen the cards before, I had to guess which version of each to put up FWIW, both cards I displayed are red parallels.
I just did a search of the Beckett marketplace and looked through the listings until I found ones with pictures of the cards.
