DR. GOLAN I AGREE ...

THE 1971 S BUSINESS STRIKE PEG LEG SHOULD BE INCLUDED. THE 1972-D IS VERY EASY TO OBTAIN, AND WOULD PRESENT VERY LITTLE OF A CHALLENGE. THE 1971-S IS AT LEAST 20 TIMES MORE DIFFICULT THAN THE 1972-P TYPE #2

Man, what's the deal with all the capital letters? Is your keyboard screwed up or something?

  • I Was Talking About The 1971-S Business Strike - Peg Leg. The 1972-D Peg Legs Are Quite Common. Going Through Rolls In The Past, I Would Usually Average 2 Or 3 Per Roll.
This Is Not The Case At All With The 1971-S Business Strike -Peg Leg!! I Have Found Only 3 Of Those !!!image

Hi Coindog. I saw this thread after asking about the 72 D Peg Leg in a different one. I guess my question now would be, why just because they are common should they not be included in a "With Varieties" Registry set? The Wide Rim 1979 P SBA is not hard to find but is a variety and is therefore included in the SBA set. If it is a legitimate variety I would think it should be included.

P.S. I am a M.D. but my handle DRG stands for my initails David Robert Golan. It has been a moniker of mine since High School. Don't ask me why but my friends have called me D-R-G for a long time. I only like to be called Dr. Golan at the Hospital. I leave my job at the door whenever possible.

  • Hello DRG,
Good Point About The 1972-D Peg Leg ! They Are Readily Available In
    High Grades.
However, The 3 Examples Of The 1971-S That I Currently Own Grade (2 In MS 64) And (1) In MS65. Mint State 65 Is Tops For This Coin , At Present.
    A MS 66, Or MS 67 Should Sell For As Much As A 1972 Type # 2.
Maybe 50 To 100 Percent More In ms67, If One Could Be Found.

IMHO a 71-S Peg-Leg PCGS MS66 Ike (if there is one).....would go for AT LEAST as much
    as a PCGS MS65 72-P Type 2......which is currently somewhere between $3,000-$3,500image

I passed on a 72 type II in 65 a year ago for $600. Woops.
  • GANDYJAI,
I Think You Are Right About The Price Of A 1971-S Peg Leg In Relation
    To A Type #2 ( 1972-P)
I Honestly Believe That A 1971-S Peg Leg In MS 67 Could Go As High As $ 15,000.000 +, If They Are Included In The Registry !
  • imageSTEPHUNTER,
That Is About What A Type #1 Sells For Today !
I Have Several Raw Type #2 Coins That I Need To Send In For Grading. Most Will Grade Low.

What about peg leg 71(s) Proofs? Someone mentioned on another thread they were much more plentiful?

Honestly speaking, I don't think the coin exist based on today's PCGS grading standards. If the coin does not exist, the $$$ does not matter.

On a side question, how many MS66 in PCGS holders that you know?

Wondercoin: I do not follow Proof Ike's like I do MS Ike's but my experience is that the Peg Leg Proof is almost as commom as the non Peg Leg. It may even be the more common type. Anytime I look at 71 S Silver Proof Ike's I find both types.

OK, but what would a 1972-P TY2 in PCGS MS67 sell for? I would bet for more than that!

    I Think You Are Right About A 1972-P TYPE # 2 In MS 67(If Found )
    Selling For $ 15,000 +
If The 1971-S Peg Leg Becomes Part Of The Registry, Then It's Price Will Skyrocket Due To Rarity,And Being Part Of Varieties Registry.image
