My friend told me just last week that his pop used to mark his spot with silver dollars. Never heard of it until then.image

PGA Tour pro Brad Faxon used a large cent in a tournament about 2 years ago - apparently someone in the gallery gave it to him as a good luck charm or something.

He referred to it as the 'big penny' in interviews and I was amused that the articles in the paper at the time (which were about the golf, of course, and mentioned the coin only in passing) indicated that no one had ever heard of a coin like that before.

I tend to use interesting foreign coins, like Japanese 5 yen pieces which look like brass and have a hole in the middle. I still putt like crap, however.

There is an Isle of Man five pence piece that I believe was popular for awhile. It had golf fo the theme of the design and showed a golf ball on the green next to the cup.
  • The Isle of Man 5p ( Golf Issue ) is very popular and is used around the world.

I use a very convincing copy of the rare $20 St. Gaudens MCMVII. I don't ever let anyone else handle it therefore they never see the word "copy" on the reverse. Gets a lot of interesting reactions out of people.imageimageimage
