First off i would never ever use the crossover system, if I have a card in another holder that I want re-holdered into a psa holder I will crack and submit......
    Good for you.

I agree 100%. The last thing you want a grader doing is to look at a GAI 8 and say to himself...hmmm.....no way.....7! Let them look at it raw and start from scratch with the process. Just my opinion.

Lothar, did they tell you this after you sent the cards in, or over the phone? I'm actually very surprised. If they don't do this, then what the hell is the purpose of their crossover check box for? I find this strange also coming from the company that ask S. Rocchi to merge because they didn't want the competition per Rocchi's words anyways. I'm picking up my 89 GAI cards tomorrow morning at the monthly show I attend. I think he'll get a good laugh at it. GAI crosses PSA cards over...just more money for them.

As I commented in another thread that has been moved somewhere where I can't find it ... PSA does not officially refuse to cross cards. They do offer that option.

Unofficially, in the opinion of myself and many others who have said so here, trying to cross GAI 8 to PSA 8, for example, is a waste of $10 and postage. It would have to be a high 8 bordering on 9 to have a shot, but in that case it would have been GAI 8.5. You need to crack it out and submit raw for a fair review. It is a costly lesson I learned this summer. PSA does not like GAI holders. I have had consistently better success with SGC and BVG (not BGS), but raw is still your best chance.

Someone raised a fair point: Grading a card in a slab is more difficult. Given the short time these graders spend on each card, if there is a question they can't resolve without seeing the card out of the holder, they'll put M/G on it. After all, once they crack it out they're committed to putting it in PSA's holder at the same grade.

Good point, and maybe they should eliminate crossovers altogether, to save them work and us money wasted on resubs. But I still believe from my own experience that PSA finds GAI's holder more difficult to grade through than the others.

Mr. jrdolan's post is quite correct. There is no stated policy, however many of us have tried to cross GAI cards recently to no avail. Other companies' slabs seem to have a slightly better chance. PSA is a business and makes internal decision which they feel best deal with the competition. At this point, they are being particular about other grading companies. GAI's service does revolve around "No slab, no pay". They will look at your crossovers and let you know their grade. They will, then, let you make your decision. Since PSA cards sell for more money in the same grade and are able to be listed in the PSA registry, there must be some added incentive to turn a PSA 8 into a GAI 8. Sure, some may be disgruntled with PSA and want to turn to another company. However, I'm sure the majority are offered a half-grade to a full grade bump. PSA doesn't want their 8s coming back in 8.5 or 9 holders from GAI. They don't want the pressure to regrade a card to a PSA 9 because GAI's business practice at this point is aimed at making a dent in the market. When any company is way behind in terms of market share, they must do something to attract customers. GAI knows the Varners, the Drent's, etc... take full page ads, have a huge presence at shows and possess large quality collections. Their aim is to gain some semblance of being on the same level as PSA.

The bottom line is EBAY. Do your research and see what cards sell for. If you feel like GAI cards command a better price, go with them. If you like PSA, stay with them. However, make yourself aware of the different companies grading process and use some common sense. Life is an educated guess. We aren't going to get videos of internal meetings at the companies. We surmise. So, think about motives, recent post here concerning crossovers and whether or not you want to use the cards in the PSA registry.
