A question about e-bay fees. Help appreciated.

imageI have some nice coins that I think I will end up selling on e-bay. I have not sold there before. The research I did tells me that if I used pay-pal and e-bay, my total cost would be about 6-7%. Am I in the ballpark?
Also, any tips on selling on e-bay would be appreciated.

Thank you,

I would suggest posting your items on the buy/sell board here first, there is no fee to list your items and I'll bet you can sell most of your list. As for ebay; be sure to take good pictures and have accurate discriptions. If your unsure about how to take pics or cannot ask here. Many members provide photo services for a nominal fee. Also make sure to post your auction on the bst board here for free advertising.

You're pretty close. I just calculated my last ninety days of sales on eBay, my fees for eBay and PayPal combined are 7.2%.

eBay fees do take a handy percentage, which is why I'd also suggest trying the BST board first--it's free. That said, if you're going the eBay route (well, any online route, really), pictures are what sell items. I also hope that, if these are the items in the previous thread, they'll be slabbed before selling. To sell those types of coins raw (or in disrespected holders) begs the question of why the coins aren't slabbed by PCGS, ANACS, or NGC.

I think your really close at 6-7% based on the list you want to sell.

For someone selling $2-$3 coins the listing fees probably put it to 40-50%

  • Please have these certified !
sounds like a lot of nice coins.
people will pay alot more for cert coins and a lot of people wont even look at raw gold on ebay !

Stick with eBay. Your fee estimate is probably about right.

    Granddad,

Considering how nice those coins are, (previous post) consignment to auction through Heritage or Bowers at around 5% might make the hassle of listing them on ebay not worth it. I do agree that the BST board here might be the best route. As I said previously, either route, get them certified to bring the most money. This is especially true for ebay auctions...less so for consignment to Heritage.

  • Really sounds like there is enough value to let Heritage,DLRC,or Bowers to auction them.
if the Juice is 5%,will they not catalog them and photo them for that fee ?
