Slater's Auction

I haven't seem this posted about yet but I might have missed it.
What's up with the latest Slater's catalog? Almost every lot mentions "due to the size and weight of this lot, shipping may be extra". Now I'm use to that. But it happens on very small lots including the set of 63 peel off BB stickers from topps. Now my memory was that 48 stickers weren't all that big or heavy. Does this bother anyone else.
Also several display boxes are in the auction sometimes accompanied by wrappers. The hype pretty hard from there "display box expert", who hasn't seen very much from what I gather (my guess would be Mike Mallon of Chicago but he should be more advanced than the "expert" seems to be). But the surprising thing on many were the minimums. Now I know that I have been out of touch on that stuff for a bit, but some of their min's look more than what I thought they would go for at the end of the auction. Are prices really up like this?

Fuzz - I also found the shipping "due to size and weight" kind of overkill. It was on a lot of lots that would certainly be no extra to ship.
I usually like their auction catalogues but I found very little that I will be bidding on in this auction. I have not experienced the problems others have with shipping, descriptions, delays etc. when winning lots but it is certainly something I am concerned about.
  • the minimum bid on his boxes especially the mid to late 60s stuff is ridiculous
you can buy them for half that on ebay and in nicer shape
all the auction houses are becoming pigs on postage and buiyers premium
same old story..if you can take in 10 million why not take in 11

I bid on Slater's last big auction. A supposedly "NM-MT" group of '60 Topps. I bid strongly...I think $4-5 per card based on the glowing description. What I got was a lot of EX to EX/NM cards, some horrifically off-centered (there was a mention that centering was not perfect, but several in the lot were 100/0). I called to complain & was given a refund for my 'buyer's premium' and an apology but I felt cheated. Fed Ex delivered the latest catalogue to me on Wednesday at about 11 AM. By 11:01 it was in the trash..unopened.
  • Mine hit the trash too after I saw their reserves.
