... give me a link to one of those surveys of the overall service of the grading services? I'm kind of shocked right now on how people people are dissing ANACS with all of these threads. I suppose I have to accept the fact that every coin that they grade they ARE slightly more liberal on their grades.
However, they ARE CLOSE. Here's an example:
About a month or so ago, I went to las vegas to have some fun. I visited the biggest (& baddest) coin store there. It's called Sahara coins*. Included in the staff is even a former PCGS grader. I purchased a 1908 Indian gold $5 piece. (I Guess it didn't have a mintmark..). They graded it Au-55 and I paid about 240 bucks for it. I then sent it off to ANACS, and a few weeks ago I got it back from ANACS and it came back one grade higher, at Au-58. So they do seem a little more liberal, but still good, right?
I've yet to send in a coin to PCGS. Mainly because in order to sent in a coin I have to send in a min. of 5 or so coins, and can only get the slowest service. That cost alot of money. Or I could join the gold membership, which I think I get a few free submissions, but that cost alot too.

There is nothing wrong with ANACS. They are right up there in the top 3 with PCGS and NGC. Too tough in some respects and too liberal in others. Anybody that buys coins and not holders will take a good look at ANACS coins as well as the others.

There is nothing wrong with ANACS. I will only purchase certified coins from PCGS, NGC and ANACS (in that order).
Congrats on the upgrade!

No service is more liberal on every coin. Is it true that some are worse than others? Yes. Case in hand. In my grading class at the ANA this past week, we had a gold-label PCI bust half dollar. The class consensus, and the two instructors said AU58. It was slabbed AU50, and is being cracked to go to NGC.
Granted, that's one of the only coins I've ever seen in a gold-label holder that hasn't been overgraded, but it shows no one is always more liberal. Conversely, every service makes its mistakes. If PCGS, NGC, and ANACS never made a mistake, they wouldn't need a grading guarantee. They have them because mistakes happen--graders are human, and humans are flawed.
That said, the ANACS graders are very skilled at what they do, and ANACS is a reputable service because of this. Do they make mistakes? Of course. Does PCGS? NGC? You bet. A few scenarios is not a valid reason to make a blanket statement about a service.

Yep.

had all my Morgans slabbed by ANACS and I am quite happy with their service.
We buyers often forget the graders are people like us - they make mistakes &
even have bad days just likes us. If people are not satisfied with 3rd party graders
maybe they should grade & slab their own coins.
