1874 $3 Gold Graded AU58 by both NGC and PCGS - currently in PCGS holder (I know, I crossed it 2 weeks ago). Will provide NGC tag.
A couple months ago at the Texas Numismatic Assoc annual show, I couldn't decide between 2 PQ AU58 $3 gold coins for my PCGS registry set, so I bought both of them to cross from NGC to PCGS. Both had a shot to upgrade to MS 61-62, but neither did. I decided to keep the 1857 since it is a lower mintage coin.
This 1874 $3 has amazing luster and has the "look" of an uncirculated coin at first glance. That's why I bought it. You could call it an AU63. I was hoping it would get a bump to MS61 based on the eye appeal as sometimes happens with gold coins. Alas, it is accurately graded. There is a faint bit of rub in the hair and some very light friction in the fields. But a PQ example none-the-less. Absolutely no distracting marks, good strike and luster you seldom see on an AU coin.
Picture accuracy: The coin is lighter in color than the picture. More yellow-gold in appearance. There is also more luster. It really booms.
Price: $1775 and I will pay registered mail fees to deliver to you. For comparison, David Lawrence had an NGC AU58 1874 they sold last week for $1850 and Rare Coins of New Hampshire is selling one right now for $1895. This one is at least as nice as those coins. I don't have as much in this one and am willing to give someone a better deal.
100% Satisfaction guaranteed - Full return if this coin does not meet your expectations.
PM if interested. Awesome $3 type coin with MS63 look for a fraction of the price.

Thanks for the offer but I'm going to keep that one. It is also a very PQ AU58 example that several knowledgable dealers have advised me to resubmit for upgrade to mint state. I just need to free up some capital and can only keep one. Wish I could keep both, but gotta get some $$$ to afford a Ty II gold dollar for my type set.

My coin is of a somewhat smaller diameter and says "1" instead of "3", though.
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
