    Being FS helps but there is definitely more enthusiasm in jeffersons right now. Mostly due, in my opinion, to the design change. It got people thinking about them again. And realizing that after the L&C ones, the design will change again.
  • Maybe some new collectors will start buying proof Jefferson nickels? It seems this series will never be as popular as the Morgan dollar...
  • There are so many reasons to like this series.

    * 1939 Type 1 & 2 reverses add interest to the debut of the coin.

    * 1939 Rev 40 & 1940 Rev 39 are scarce and challenging proof varieties.

    * 1939 Double Die Reverse - Major doubling visible with the naked eye.

    * 1942-D/Horizontal D - Very rare coin in mint state.

    * 1942-1945 War nickels - Highly collectible as a short 11-coin set. First time "P" mintmark was used.

    * 1943/2-P - The last overdate produced by the mint.

    * 1954-S/D & 1955-D/S - nice OMM's and scarce in Gem+

    * 1964 SMS coin - major rarity

    * Literally dozens more doubled-die and RPM coins throughout the series.

    * Jefferson nickels rock! image

    also the coin and currency sets from `94 and`97.
    low mintage on those `special uncirculateds` make them alittle appealing
    to collectors.

    Ken, you just about covered all there is to why this series is so interesting AND collectible. As a casino employee here in Vegas, I routinely buy a bag of $100 worth, take them home and go thru them. No other series allows you to still find almost all dates/mms still in circulation, and some can be FS.

    Now that NGC is making the attribution distinction on their labels of 5FS and 6FS, along with recognizing reverse types, it just keeps getting better and better!

    PCGS has a 1939 DDR type 1 that I am hoping will make 66FS!
    Anybody know what one of these babies goes for? Also, a 58-D I'm hoping will come back 67 (a lock on FS with 6FS).

    PS I have my eye on that 44-P so watch out! image
