I don't know about commems, but I've had good luck with MS66RD Lincoln wheats crossing from NGC to PCGS. I crack them and submit them raw. However, I do not send many in - say, one in 8 or so that I feel will make the same grade at PCGS. Most of NGC's 66's are more like 65+'s, at least in the red wheats.

The only 2 commems I crossed was a Grant and a Gettysburg and both NGC and PCGS agreed they were MS-64. I thought both were MS-65.

I've had an Isabella quarter cross form NGC MS63 to PCGS MS63 and a Gettysberg cross from a NGC MS65 to a PCGS MS65. I sent these both in to PCGS in the NGC holders.
  • I have about a 60% success rate in NGC/PCGS cross of early commems.
It seems like the less expensive coins cross and the high dollar coins dont!

I crossed several, a ms65 spanish trail was the most valuable. I crossed a ms63 san diego got ms64 at pcgs, a ms64 texas get ms65 at pcgs and a ms63 vermont get ms64 at pcgs.
Going to depend on the coin you can't just expect a coin to cross because of the number on the ngc slab.

    hey marz

a blanket answer to a blanket question---if you crack them out of the NGC holders there is about a 99% chance they will be holdered by PCGS, though perhaps not at the grade assigned by NGC. this begs the inevitable question of why do you want them in PCGS holders??? not so simple, 'eh?? if you like the coin and are willing to accept the newly assigned grade because it really doesn't matter what it is, crack and send. if you're concerned about a financial hit, send encapsulated. if it's for a Registry set and it's a points thing, you're on your own!!!!

the primary reason i'll leave a coin encapsulated when i cross is if it has color or some other attribute i'm uncertain about. past that i've learned to trust my instincts, cracked-out and submitted with pleasant results.
