johnny bench sticker needs identified; real oddball

got this on the bay a number of years ago. I wrote down the card description, but i must have lost it.

i`m thinking mid to late 70`s. blank back. 2 1/2 x 3 in.

i`m pretty certain they have something to do with a paticular sock manufacture. I have never, ever seen another one like it anywhere.
here ya go;

Oh come on, Johnny would never stoop to touting socks. He means blasts, taters, dingers. "These are my favorite type of home runs!"

OK, well, so maybe it's hosiery. Nice item! You're not going to ask CU to add it to the Bench Master registry, are you??
  • hey john,

its a play on words, plus i seem to remember something in the auction ad about socks. will i add this to registry ?

now john, what would make you think i would do something like that ???

fyi, the set will be getting a new addition shortly that should have a grade weight of like 8 or 9 !! (not this sticker)

    your friend, lee

You don't have to worry about me, Lee. I have the grade points, but it's the easy stuff. I need too much of the scarce stuff to be a threat to anyone serious in the Bench Master registry. And I'm working on too many other sets that draw money and effort away from Johnny. I'm not focused.

The basic Bench set, however, if I find a nice '71 and '81, I'll be knockin' on your door.
  • john,

ya gotta give to get, if i went out and got 9`s in his early year cards (68,69,70 etc...) i would`nt have any money for his test issue

type and rare oddball cards (venezuelans, 71 greatest moments, etc...)

my lot has been cast. i will settle for middle ground in the basic set, to be #1 in his master set.

    thanks, lee

Ya gotta to give to get ... ain't that the truth.

A few people don't have to sacrifice; they've got the deep pockets. They can complete one project in 9's, tuck it away, and move on to the next. Their names are at the tops of the registries and their cards illustrate Joe Orlando's book. They have my admiration and envy.

Me, I've got to sell almost every card not tied to a defined project to keep me going on my main passions. I've already largely sacrificed Aaron, Mays, Musial, Clemente, Williams (with reluctance and pain) so I can get somewhere on Bench, Mantle, Koufax, and Post-War HOF Rookies. And 1953 Topps is calling to me, too.

It's like having too many girlfriends. I wouldn't make a good Mormon. Or sheik.

What was the topic again? Oh yeah, the Bench sticker. I don't know what it is, but I want it.
