I don't see anything very controversial about this auction. Why do you want to critique it?

I don't see anything peculiar about it other than the overgrading on the slab, which the seller honorably disregards in the description.

I wouldn't bid on it without first seeing the reverse, though.

You need better pics. You take nice coin pictures, so I know you can do it.

In your proof cent auction, you should include a picture of the whole slab. A lot of people including myself like to see this, especially for PCI slabs.

    I think the coin is conservatively graded...looks like a 71 (shot 72)...

    Another opinion...

If you auction coins like the one in this thread, some buyers might avoid the rest of your auctions for fear that the PCGS/NGC/ANACS coins are problem coins. That is about as tactfully as I can put it.
  • suggestion ?

If you are going to sell 4th tier service coins, dont BS people by telling them it could be a PR69. You would slab it in a minute and make far more money that way. I just see this as preying on the weak.

If you cant see a mark on the coin, why didnt you slab it? I think that statement might be a bit disengenuous. Just MHO as you asked for it.

Let me put it another way...it is highly unlikely that I would look at any other inventory, let alone buy a coin, from someone who sells SGS-70 coins. When I go to a show and see certain slabs in a case, I move on. Yeah, I know, buy the coin, not the holder, blah, blah, blah. For me, it is guilt by association. Perhaps I miss out on a good coin or good deal, but it makes my search process far more efficient.

Don't you (secretly) hope that two uninformed, but wealthy, stooges get in a bidding war thinking that there are about to buy the finest known proof Franklin half?
  • That was the furthest thing fom my mind !

Christ, wada ya want me to say ? its a piece of crap ?
    its not,its a really nice coin !
dont for a second compare me with "Coinmovers"
no hype, just honest,it will likely go 68-69 at pcgs or ngc, fact is,i would bet anybody the grading fees,at that its just a generic Frankie,68's and 9's are still cheap coin's !
if i thought for a second it would go as CAM,it would not be on EBAY !

Maybe it is, maybe it is not. Point is, in the SGS slab, I will not take the time to find out.

And there is (unfortunately) an element of guilt by association.

BTW, no need to get offended. You are soliciting opinions, and I am giving you mine. Others here may be perfectly happy buying this coin (or another in an SGS holder) or another coin from you. Good luck!

It seems like a good auction to me. It clearly states that it does not believe it to be a 70 at the major grading houses. A better picture and a blow up picture would make the auction better.

You're on. I will pay the PCGS grading fees (economy, of course). If the coin slabs 68 or 69 you owe me nothing. If not, you refund me the grading fees and give me the coin. PM if interested.

    Joe.
  • Hey Man !
the mods can move it no problem.

You guys are killing me. The auction looked fine with me. Well, I should qualify that statement, I have no interest whatsoever in Franklins and wouldn't bid on one with 1 second left and no other bids in a no reserve auction. But, as far as Franklins go, that one looks like a shot 68 to me.

i think the deal is,he sends it to PCGS,if it wont cross at any grade PR68 or 9 i give him the coin and pay the fee's,if it x's i get the coin and he eats the fees !

Only 2 beefs from me. I don't see a stated return policy or lack thereof. I see Paypal Preferred but I don't see what other types of payment you do or don't accept. I would need to email you about either of those before I bid and I usually don't bother unless the coin is really something special.
