This wouldn't be some kind of doubling, would it?

Was looking through my '03 Red Book and noticed it listed a 1958 DDO cent, only as "rare" and no price or photo. I only have six 1958 cents, and of them, this one looks like some sort of doubling, though I'm certain it isn't anything special.

Not sure by the photo of the date alone.

The Wexler & Flynn reference book lists the coin with several photos. The date shows doubling on the nine and eight - similar to your photo. But it also shows dramatic doubling in the motto and Liberty. It is almost as dramatic as the 1955 DDO.

    Die markers are listed as:
Obverse - die gouge to the right of the S in TRUST
Reverse - small die gouge projects from the left side of the right wheat stem to the right of the S of STATES

The description goes into a two page history of how the first two examples were discovered. It truly is a rare piece.

Hope that helps. If you could post a picture of the motto or Liberty that would be helpful.

Actually, I don't think it is. My cam was out of batteries, so I used my scanner to take the shot. I've gotten batters for my camera now, and I think it was just an effect from the scanner..

These are the 4 I scanned, only these shots are with my camera w/flash (my alternate source of light is dead...)

    So... nothing special.
