Found this PQ Bust Half at the Clearwater show..

I picked this 1833 Bust Half up at the clearwater show last week. I walked the floor twice looking for Halves with this type of toning.I found 2, that was it. Also ran across one that was too white for me. A few dealers said they saw a couple on Thursday that got snatched up quick.

This 1833 is in a NGC holder, graded at MS64... Any opinions?

I have posted a pic of my 1837 half that I feel is undergraded. I know it has been sent in at least 3 times and came back the same grade. I dont know if it was sent in raw or holdered.Compare the two coins and give me your opinion on the 1837 as well. If the forum feels the same way as I do, I think I might crack it out and try for an upgrade again.

Nice, nice, and once again for the hearing impaired....NICE!!! As for your '37, I think it might make 64, but I personally would still rather keep it as a top of the heap 63 rather than a "just made it on a good day" 64.

    Thanks " OKbustchaser "

I like your icon. Is that a coin of yours and what is the date?

edited to add: I just figured out the date - 1811... Nice

The 1833 looks nice. I like the color. I hate to see bright white dipped old silver. It must have been pricy in MS64. I collect the bust halves in AU.

I forgot about the clearwater show and went camping instead. I made it there last summer and bought a few barber halves. How was the turnout at Clearwater?

Can't get a good enough read from the photos, but appreciate you posting these. There are a few of us that appreciate these dirty things. image the 1833 looks decent, looks like some opened up metal in the cheek though? But it does look like a "true unc" from the image, so that's a good thing.

It must have been pricy in MS64. I collect the bust halves in AU.

My sentiments also.... I don't collect bust halves in this high of a grade, so I won't offer any commentary about the 37 upgrading- it looks like a gem no matter what the holder says..... The 33 looks wonderful too, nice find!!!

the 1833 looks like a nice ms-63, the 1837 looks like a borderline unc to me. i'd call it ms-60.

usual disclaimer for digi-pics & luster.

What is money, in reality, but dirty pieces of paper and metal upon which privilege is stamped?

Merc : How was the turnout at Clearwater?

    Hey Merc,
I went to the show on Friday in the late afternoon and it was pretty busy. Not sure how the weekend went but most of the dealers I talked to said they did well Thurs and Friday. Wish I could have spent more time looking around, although I probably would have bought more than I really needed to.

Gee...I love to look at coins like this. Thanks for sharing with us. I won't make any comments on the grades 'cause I'm just not knowledgeable on grading them.image

My opinion? I want both of them!

I'm just starting with bust halves in 62-64 grades.

I like both of those coins a lot, nice dark original looking toning over good luster, I'd say, superb choices image
