Interesting fact about the $19 million sold (so far) in the John Ford auctions

There hasn't been a single US Mint-issued coin in any of the auctions. Closest was a 1861 CSA half dollar (made at the New Orleans mint, but under Confederate control).

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

    We spent $50,000 and didn't even buy a single coin!

    Yes, but that 1861 Half Dollar is far cooler than any 1804 silver dollar/1933 double eagle out there. Now that is a COOL coin.
