Indian cent variety...

It's been driving me nutsimage. Can someone explain "Pick axe" IHC variety to me, maybe a pic?

    It is an 1870 indian cent that had a die chip in it. In the upper part of the diamonds, there was a nasty die gouge that resembled a pick axe. Sorry, but I could not quickly find a picture of one.

    It is rather distinctive and does look like an ax - agree with above.

    My 1870 Indian cent is the Pick Axe variety (Snow-7). I'll try to remember to dig it out and take a picture of it later.

    It looks like some kind of a tool impacted the die and moved some metal on it, resulting in something that looks like a pick axe at the base of the feathers in the headdress.

    Here it is. Interestingly, if memory serves me right, I think I bought this one from J.J. Teaparty about eight years ago.
