Confused about my recent payment to EBay

I paid my ebay seller fees of 25.12 by way of my paypal balance. I look at my checking account and there is an additional 1.50 charge on it from ebay.. where in the world did this come from and why did they charge me more?

  • On the bottom of your Ebay bill you missed the line telling you to add $1.50 surcharge if you want to use Paypal. image

D'OH! Seriously? They do that? I never noticed that before.... I always pay them with PayPal. So those sunsab*tches can charge a surchage for using paypal but we can't? Now how does that work?
  • Don't they own paypal?

This is true? Ebay actually charges a "surcharge" if you choose to pay them from a finance source that they actually own themselves? What additional costs could they incur? And, wouldn't they want to encourage PayPal use? image

Of course they encourage paypal use but they're not going to incur those fees because you paid with a credit card. They want the ebay community to use paypal and they want people not familiar with the service to try it out "Safely" because they are paying ebay not some potentially unscrupulous seller. Even though eBay owns PayPal they can't get their transactions "free". so if you pay them with a cc then they are getting charged as well. The transactions have to still be "on the books"

I understand that...but, his post seems to imply that he paid from his checking account balance. No CC involved.

I recently paid Ebay via PayPal and can not find any surcharges on either service. Doesn't mean they aren't there, but I can't find them.
  • Generally my eBay fees are charged automaticaly to my credit card, but I have paid them with PayPal a couple of times. Never a surcharge either way.

I took a quick look at their payment options and no where does it mention a surcharge. They do mention interest though..were you perhaps late submitting payment and that's what it is?

E-Bay recently had some issues with account status for anyone who paid on June 29th or 30th. They have since corrected the situation.
