Let's try this again "paypal woes"

Don't know why this didn't post in the first placeimage

I was sent an e-check by the high bidder on one of my auctions on 2JUL2004 with an expected clearing date of 8JUL2004. I went to paypal to check to see if it has cleared and now the expected clearing date has changed to 21JUL2004. What's up with that??? This date is about two weeks from now! Do I need to call paypal or contact the buyer of my coins?image

Ouch is right! So what do I do now? Cancel the deal and go to the next bidder? Never had this happen to me beforeimage
Oh and in case all want to know who this bidder was for future reference it was Coinmovers. I don't buy from them and now it appears I will not be selling to them eitherimage

    Thanks,

  • As long as you don't send the item(s) out until PayPal notifys you that the e-check has cleared, your fine.

It's a little unusual for the "clear date" to be moved out beyond the initial timeline PayPal specified but just have some patience. Might have something to do with the recent holiday causing a delay?

Next time specify you don't accept e-checks. They are kind of a pain.

Called paypal and they said the reason for the extended date was because there was a failure to get the funds from the buyer's bank with the first request. As I said never had a problem with e-checks in the past it sounds like to me the problem is with the buyer's bank account and not the e-check.

Contact the seller and tell them what paypal said and to pay you another way other than e-check asap or you will have to sell to someone else.
  • Looked it up
cheap bastads cant pay you 65 bucks ?
    Linky

These will be cracked out and PCI'd if they ever pay you !
all will be PR69 DCAMS and suck in some poor soul.

if it was me,i would file a non-paying bidder claim and refuse the payment when it clears !

that would slow em down for about 20 seconds !

im gonna hear about this one !

I like that Kennedy. Let me know if the deals falls thru and you want to sell the Kennedy separately.

  • Hi,

Yup... coinmovers will crack the slab, have PCI grade the coins as "ultra deep cameo MS70", then place the coins back on Ebay stating their value is $100,000 (seriously) then they will sell each coin for around $200 to $300 each in a privet auction.

Of course they never get $100,000 or $200,000 for any coins but... they do get hundreds of dollars for coins worth $25... as they laugh all the way to the bank and Ebay gets there cut!

With all that profit, you'd think their checks wouldn't bounce! LOL

  • I never pay by e-check. But I use to keep a defunct bank account in case I had my paypal account compromised again. One time I forgot to click on other payment options so I could pay by credit card. Well, needless to say, the seller was not to happy. My fault, but the seller waited almost a week to contact me, but then paid him promptly by CC. It's a possibility

I don't know why PayPal does this on echecks. As others have mentioned, it means the echeck bounced. Log in to PayPal, dig up the transaction, and click on details. Refund the payment. They won't deduct the amount from your account since the funds have not cleared, what this will do is cancel the echeck. Then send an email to the bidder, and tell them that their echeck did not clear, and they will need to pay by PayPal instant transfer or money order. I just went through this with a bidder a couple of weeks ago. Whatever you do, don't take a personal check from them. If they bounce an echeck, they will bounce a paper check.
  • As far as I am concerned Paypal is a scam and a joke. Ebay gets to double dip sellers by charging auction fees ,paypal fees, and credit card surcharges. It is a good thing you caught this.I used to sell on Ebay Bamboo Flyrods. I had new and restored Bamboo Flyrods. I had 4 auctions end in a day and they all paid Paypal. One was with an echeck and the clear date was a week a way. I had two auctions end the day the Echeck was to clear. They paid Paypal and I mistakenly thought it was the Echeck clearing. I sent the 500.00 rod out and later that day looked and the Echeck date had been extended by a week. I emailed buyer and never heard back. I called Paypal and was told they always try and deposit two times if there isn't enough money the second time they cancel payment. The buyer had 75 positive feedbacks and no negatives. I waited hoping to get paid. The second time there was no money in the account and Paypal told me sorry your fault.I no longer sell on Ebay because of Paypal. The other incident involved a 900.00 rod the buyer disputed charges and Paypal refunded the money to them and buyer kept the rod.

    Hey K6AZ,

I did what you had suggested this morning right after I talked to paypal. I returned their echeck and informed them I wanted payment made by different means either by credit card or from a funded paypal account. I also informed them that I'd give them a couple of days to finish this transaction and if I do not here anything from them the lot will be offered to the second highest bidder and resold.

I dare not take a personal check from these folksimageimage

    Thanks,
