WHY ME?

So I get an AIM message tonight... guy says he's 38, has 6300+ fb on ebay, owns his own shop with a guy named Tom and wants to do a trade. Eventually the trade works into about a $1000 trade. I'm getting kind of excited but he has no SCF fb or anything so I ask him to send first... he want's to send at the same time.

After talking with him for over 2 hours I ask him for his ebay ID again... he gave me an address to send to in MO, I look at the ebay ID he gave me and it's in San Jose, CA... I thought it was odd when I asked him to send with Deliv Conf and he didn't know what it was...strange coming from a guy who has 6300+fb on ebay... So next I ask him where he got my AIM id from...he didn't know. Hmm... Then I looked up his name on the internet to get an address...funny...his name doesn't show up, especially not at that address and then I look again and the name on the trade page says "Jays Cards" this guy said his name was Kyle. So now I know he's up to something. So I flat out ask him... Here is his response...

By the way, he perpetuated this lie for 2+ hours...his being ripped off by sending first, hates "kids" on the message boards, been collecting for 17 years, owns this shop for the last 5 years blah blah blah... He even gave me a line about going to KY to get 1200 worth of cards back from a "punk kid" who ripped him off.

Here ya go. Strange at 3 am I had all my faculties about me to spot this slapnuts. There was no way I was sending 1200 worth of cards to a guy I've never traded with before who hits me up out of the blue...
Long read.... but amazing...btw-I'm G35Trader...This starts after I looked at the ebay ID he gave me to see if there was an addy. Plus, I asked what he usually sold and he said clothes and dvd's but this account pretty much sells cards.

And he seems so unaffected by the whole thing.. "I didn't lie that much" etc... So back to my original question... WHY ME???? UGH! I realize it's summer but this was the most ridiculous thing Ii've ever dealt with. Please tell me one of you has had a similar experience and I'm not the only one? :S

My rule of thumb is not to reply to IM's from anyone I don't know. If I'm emailed with a deal or trade proposal, that person sends first. I feel if they contacted me and want to deal with me because of my rep, perfect feedback and no risk, they send first. Otherwise no deal and no wasted time.

Envoy, I've been meaning to ask if you would trade $100K in cards and cash for my 52T Mantle PSA 9. We'll send at the same time... On three, OK? One, two, THREE! Did you send yet? Cool. Hey, I almost forgot. I'm not 100% sure it's a real Mantle. It says reprint on the back. I'm not sure what that means, I don't know much about cards, but it is really PSA 9. So I didn't lie THAT much.

Seriously man, who knows why these wingnuts latch onto a particular person. They do say the strangest things once they're caught, though. Good job handling this guy. Very entertaining (and educational).

Thanks Jr. I don't know what the deal was. Very strange indeed. There was no way I was sending a grand worth of stuff first...then he tells me he's 25 and he's obviously not out of his teens.

After you make the trade with this guy let me know. I want you to trade me your card collection for the steal of the century.........I will send you the rights to the Brooklyn Bridge. It was recently discovered that my family is the sole heirs to ownership of it but I have been waiting for the right time to stake my claim. I am going to forfeit ownership just for you in trade for your cards. Now, I don't lie because I have no reason to as I also own the state of Vermont and am very wealthy. Just one thing......You MUST send me the cards first to my first cousin's best friend's mother. Is it a deal?

I'm still amazed at 3am I was able to pick up on this. Anytime during the day it was obvious.. If I posted the start of the conversation it seemed all well and good...then slowly little things started coming apart at the seams. I pretty much told him to pi$$ off. I will admit that I told him if his card showed up I would send him the Pujols card we agreed to but that I would never send first to him. Amazing someone would take that much time out of their day to lie to someone...and then to come clean??? I don't get it. Anyways...thanks for the support guys.

I slept til 10am today because of this twit...missed out on the ebay steals at 7am. DA^^^^it)

thats hilarious, envoy!.. what a tool.. heh.. i dont use any kind of IM so i dont know much about it, but it would seem like it has to be somebody that knows who you are, otherwise how could they get your info?
