Buyback Question

Quick question about buyback cards - I don't deal in modern at all so maybe some of you guys can answer this. I was in a shop today and a dealer threw in 4 packs of 2002 Fleer Greats for free. I pulled a Kirby Puckett buyback auto card, with an expiration date of Dec 2002. Anybody know if there's anything I can do?

    Jeff,

Unfortunately, I don't think there's much you can do. That's one of the problems the card companies have created with the redemption cards. With an expiration date on them, it kills the sale value of unopened packs/boxes once the expiration date passes.

You could try contacting Fleer directly and explaining the situation though. Sometimes, companies have extras lying around due to a lack of people sending in the redemption cards for the actual item. You might get lucky. Good Luckimage

There is no easy answer. I have had Topps send me back an expired redemption card, with a letter stating there was nothing they could do, while UD actually sent me a different card for an expired redemption (better than nothing!). Send it in, take a chance, what have you got to lose?

I will send it in and see if they have any Ryans laying around! Never hurts to ask, right?

2004 Shoebox sets come with 4 bonus cards described as "buybacks." One each from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s. They seem in very nice shape corners-wise and include the occasional star, though many are off-center to some degree. I was curious what "buyback" means in this situation.

mudflap - call Fleer and tell them what you got. They are very good about making good on expired redemptions.
