Total nonsense. The three is plainly visible when the set is in-hand. The three on the cent becomes difficult to photograph and/or blends in with the field only when the coin is angled just right.
I and thousands upon thousands of collectors have these so-called "vanishing three" sets. They are nothing special and the only kicker one should add to the price of these absurdly common sets is a gullibility premium.
No way! PCGS has graded these Lincoln cents in PR70DCAM because of the nature of the strike in this series. I think the later sets had a stronger 3, but not by much. It's worth the issue price and I think you can still order them from the US mint in silver!
