Can someone help with this question?

Is there a web site where I can find the history of the significance behind the names of MLB teams? For instance, I'm sure the Reds have an interesting story, and yesterday I heard that the Cubs were named after a newspaper. I just want to find out more.

Thanks

Here's one for football teams: NFL Team Origins

Maybe MLB has something similar on their website?
  • Maybe this link will shed some light on a few teams. I'll keep looking for other sites. image

    COOL SITE
    I particularly liked this info:

"NEW YORK GIANTS – Owner Tim Mara “borrowed” the Giants name from the city’s Major League Baseball team of the same name. This was not unusual among early day pro football franchises. At one time or another there were NFL franchises named the New York Yankees, Brooklyn Dodgers, Cleveland Indians, Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Cardinals, Boston Braves and Detroit Tigers."

    that is really neat!
I wonder what some NY Yankees FOOTBALL memorbilia would go for?

The Cubs were named after a newspaper? I thought they had a little cub bear 🐻 on their uniforms.

    Never knew that.

How the GB Packers got their name is interesting.

So funny because I didn't even look at the original date of the OP and saw some names I haven't seen in years lol
