My first fingerprint from PCGS

Just wanted to let everyone know that I'm now in the fingerprint club. I just received my 1944-s Lincoln back from PCGS. It graded as MS-66RD but besides all of that it now has a nice print on the obverse. I know its not mine as I wear gloves. I have had the coin for many years now raw and I figure if the print was already there it would have came up before I submitted it. Oh well, just needed to vent alittle. Have a nice day everyone.

I thought PCGS had addressed and corrected that issue some time ago. Oh well.....at least it wasn't a PR65 Coiled Hair Stella.

Maybe if you send it back, PCGS will replace the coin for you.

Ok, does it bother you or give the coin some character? Could be David Hall's prints ya know. image
  • Dragon I will take your advice and gove them a call. This is the very first one that has came back with a print I have submitted many coins to them with no problems.
Wolf Im not to worried about the coin the print is very minute hopefully it is as dark as it will get. I still like the coin but now everytime i see the coin i know there is a print on it.

That is disheartening. They know how important it is to NOT fingerprint them, yet it happens. I know they're not perfect & accidents will
happen but it seems to happen too often. image

Maybe PCGS should wear gloves. Look Half way down the page and you will see on the most expensive coins they use their fingers w/o gloves.

I always thought PCGS would be in a "Clean Room" similar to a medical office where there was all white and a dust-free, humidity-free environment. But after seeing the picture above, looks like any work desk. And I always wonder why there is alot of dust in my holders.

I never rcvd a finderprint but did get a smudge on an Ike dollar.
  • Maybe we could get some pictures of all these printed coins. They could be compared to see if it is one particular grader (if the prints match).

Or, just for fun, send a picture of the prints to the FBI to let them run them against their database. Maybe this fingerprinting is the work of terrorists.

Man.....you guys need to collect pocket pieces like I do (coins grading PO01) - then you'd NEVER worry about finger prints! image

If you ever cracked a coin out of a PCGS slab, you would question how it is that all their coins don't have figerprints on them.
