Rec'd a trimmed card from Ebay today....gee

I wonder what the percentage of trimmed material comes from Ebay in raw form. I mean the card I got today is modern 2003-04 SPX Hockey autograph/jersey rookie. Needed this card to finish my set This is actually the 4th trimmed card within the last year from Ebay. I'm sure the seller tried to trim it for grading and just messed up badly and dish it off on Ebay. I noticed it immediately as soon as I opened up the envelope. The whole right edge was sliced. The top right edge was missing 1/64 (BGS 9.5 material) but as it went down it started to fill out till it reached the bottom. At first I thought it was miscut, but the bottom right corner hooked a bit or bat ears. Placing it over another card confirmed it as I can see the card stock from the card behind it due to the tilting of the edge. Also, on patch/jersey cards, the cards are a lot thicker sandwiching that swatch. So when a potential trimmer tries to slice an edge, turn and look at the back of the card. You will see that the edge to the surface in 1/64 length has risen up due to the pressure of the blade. Now you would have to try to iron that part down but it would still be noticable. I emailed him earlier this afternoon today to tell him I'm sending his crap back and needed his address since I paid with Paypal. Haven't heard a response yet. There was no return address on the envelope.....no confirmation, no nothing. Just a .49 cent stamp and my name & address. I didn't even know what I was getting till I opened up the envelope. Dont you just love these sellers that accept Paypal also?

SInce you paid with PayPal, tell them that you never received it. His 49 cents of postage obviously didn't have delivery confirmation.

No, I already sent him the email stating that I rec'd the card and it's a piece of **it. He left me positive feedback for my immediately payment (5 seconds after the auction ended) so unless he doesn't respond and reimburse me, then all I can do is neg him about the trimming. He sells a lot of raw cards on ebay (all modern) so that would hurt him. I could of gone that route and said I never got it but that never occurred to me. I think I was just ticked off and emailed him immediately.

A 2003-04 card needed trimming to be presentable?

SPx cards are tough to pull, even from packs, in gradeable condition. Often, because of chipping along the borders due to the thickness of the card, they are trimmed slightly by a few notable Ebay sellers, and submitted to BGS in order to achieve the usual 9.5 type results. I would imagine once in a blue moon, they mess up, and dump the card on Ebay raw.

What was the sellers name so I can avoid them?
  • What's the seller's ebay id, name, and location?
Baseball Card Heaven, the closest card shop to the Las Vegas Strip.

Our current ebay auctions, and of course BaseBallCardHeaven.com

    What was the sellers name

gem3377 is the seller's Ebay ID. The card I bought is item # 5105276966. Still haven't heard back from him. I'll give it up to 3 days and then unholster my gun.

I don't think Paypal will take your e-mail as proof of you having received since he could easily forge that e-mail. You could still claim you didn't get the card. Technically, that wouldn't be a lie either - you bid on an unaltered card and didn't receive one. So you didn't receive what you bid on...

While I don't encourage EEK or anyone to fib, I will say that once you acknowledge in your complaint to PayPal that you received anything at all from the seller, your cause is dead.

In a scam earlier this year I received a handfull of worthless 2003 commons instead of the 1965 Mantle PSA 8 that I paid for. The scammer used delivery confirmation, so had a tracking number. PayPal's response? They would not do a chargeback because delivery was made and it was simply a dispute over the quality of the goods. Work it out with the seller, they said. Well, the seller had skedaddled and was NARU, but PayPal still would not get involved.

So if you do file a complaint, do NOT click the button next to "Item delivered, but not as expected." That's the same as clicking "Never mind, I don't want my money back after all."

I'm beginning to think about this more and more. Still haven't heard back from the seller. Sent another email. I'll weigh it out within the next day or two. Thanks.

I saw the eBay ID; was the seller Kevin, Tony, Shane, or any of the other alleged "trim crew" and/or their accomplices?
    Who is Rober Maris?

It's actually a female name when I checked the Paypal transaction. At least that's the name verified on their Paypal account; but PP doesn't list the seller's address. Still no response; not surprising.

This is true. When I was ripped off by someone in Italy, Paypal did NOT care that I had an email from the buyer stating that he received the cards. Nope. They only accept delivery confirmation or signature confirmation as proof.

Buy a stinky fish and send it to him/her. Send it from a the post office in the next town and include a urine sample in a nice Dodger mug. Doody is also a good gift for those that sell trimmed cards. Last, if you feel wronged enough, just put a bunch of stamps on your wife and send her. Sometimes you have to fight dirty. This is one of those cases. No matter how careful you are, raw trimmed material will eventually turn up. It makes you sick to your stomach. Maybe someone here can help you finish your set. I'm not a hockey collector, but there are some hardcore hockey guys posting.

    Best of luck,

    S.

Wrap the dung in an old Baby Ruth bar wrapper and reseal it.

When sending the wife make sure to place the stamps strategically and don't feed her for a week. At some point she will lose it and decide to kill the next male she sees. If you time it right she'll cross that line on the doorstep of your adversary. A little too soon and we're less one postal worker.

    Either way....you win.

Where in the auction is anything mentioned about condition? Why not ask condition before bidding? They might have told you it was trimmed.
  • envoy98envoy98 Posts: 4,000 ✭✭
Yeah, I'm sure they'd say "oh the condition...um..yeah...well, here's the thing..condition is great, actually better than new, Problem is we had to make it a little smaller to make it that way. You understand"
