Another round of Guess the Grade - Seated Lib H10C - GRADE POSTED

SandhawkSandhawk Posts: 1,154 ✭✭✭
PCGS graded the coin MS-64.

What do you think PCGS graded it and why??

PS - The hazy appearance on the reverse at 6 o'clock is just a scuff on the holder.

Without being able to see the luster, I would have to go with MS-64. If it is very flashy, MS-65.

Very nice coin, you have good taste.

I agree with MS-64, assuming it hasn't been cleaned....but then it wouldn't be slabbed. Pretty nice clash on it too.

Unless the luster is knock-out in person (it doesn't come through at all in the pics), I'd guesstimate MS63. That is one heckuva clashed die, too.

Is that die clash I'm seeing?

AU58, thinking it's a smooth obverse. I have a Barber that has a similar back with a weak front and NGC slabbed it MS62 so I'm going on the premise that PCGS was tight on this.
    Prost!

Why step over the dollar to get to the cent? Because it's a 55DDO.

I don't think pcgs will grade it. I think it will come back in the same flip you sent it in and it will have a sticker saying CLEANED. sorry!!

I'm going 65 if it has luster. 64 if it's not there.

    Love the coin either way.

I say 63 with the die clash holding it back.

Looks to be in the 63 to 65 range. The luster and hairlines cannot be judged well in this photo. I'd say 64.

I go 62/63. I'm not sure if all the marks on the obv are clash marks. If they are then a bit higher.

A few observations/comments about this coin:

It is struck from clashed dies - that is what the odd looking squiggles are, scattered about the obverse.

That means it is almost certainly a business-strike and not a Proof (it is extremely rare when Proofs are struck from clashed dies).

I see no evidence of "cleaning", though it could have been "dipped".

I see no evidence of wear, from the images at least.

Luster often looks subdued in images, but even here, the luster looks fine to me.

No disturbing/major man-made flaws are apparent.

    The strike is perfectly fine.

While I could easily be incorrect in my assessment from images, I see no reason why this coin isn't at least an MS64 and an MS65 wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Thanks Mark, you left nothing else for me to comment on. image

Oh wait, another observation. The holder is all marked up with crud and scratches, which probably means it hasn't been constantly resubmitted for a higher grade. Coin Coffin Maybe MS66?

    Although, I'd have to agree with MS64 - MS65.

    Thanks for everybody's input!

PCGS graded it MS-64. I really like the die clashing. I think it gives the coin some personality. The coin has nice luster and it fits right in with my type set!!

Plus, I got a pretty good deal on it! image

Is it Prooflike in hand? It almost looks that way in the picture... at the very least, it has a very sharp strike it would seem. The Reverse detail seems to me, to be especially sharp...

Hi JrGman, the coin has a sharp strike, but is not PL.
