Got grades. Weird. I'm happy but not what I expected...

I certainly can't complain. I have a 1917 D MS65FH Standing Lib Quarter that is a hands-down MS66FH+ all day long. The dealer I bought it
from felt that way and so did anyone who's ever seen it. So... I decide to go for the big re-grade. I remembered reading here on the
forums that someone had the theory that if you want one coin upgraded that you should send at least two & you'd have a better
chance. The idea being PCGS will meet you half way. I figure why not?

So I sent in a beautifully toned 1878 CC AU58 Seated Lib Quarter along with it. A dealer who viewed the coin a few years ago gave me the
opinion that it was probably in a higher holder one time & was a failed crackout attempt at a higher grade. He believed a die chip on the
obverse might have been mistaken for big contact mark as well. Here's what happened:

1 21624792 1878-CC 25C USA MS62
2 21624793 1917-D 25C Type 1 USA MS65FH

The Seated Lib jumped up 3 points! The knockout-no-questions-asked MS65FH Standing Lib stayed the same!!!

Oh well... Like I said, I certainly can't complain but I am surprised! I'll try the Standing Lib again another day. It will go up a notch, no doubt.

Thanks PCGS! image
