The Dark Side

Just so you guys don't think that I'm entirely a Canadian collector, I found this when I unpacked my 20 year old dormant collection recently and started getting the bug again. Edward I silver penny. Anybody know about what it is worth? I don't have any medevial catalogs anymore.

And I had been thinking quite highly of you ... but you had to bring out that British hammered trash!

Nothing wrong with hammered coinage, but as it turns out it the only hammered piece I own. Bought it 20 or 25 years ago as a historical curiousity. I own quite a few modern world pieces.

Why are you condescending of hammered coinage?

Not so much hammered as British ... too many collectors of monarchs here.

That is a London Mint early type (you can tell because the tri-foil fleurs on the king's crown). In that grade I'd say it would be worth about $25-30.

BTW - Compa will be collecting British in a short while, just let us work on him!image

My true interest in world coins lies with WWII coinage, particularly governments in exile. Two interesting, but not especially rare examples:

    1. Danish government in exile - Faroes KM-5 1941

    2. Dutch government in exile - Curacao KM 38 1943-P (mark through 25 on reverse on photo, but not on coin).
