Think coinmovers might have a problem with eBay's new policy?

As you all know, coinmovers hypes their coins with an "auction value". Apparently, under the new guidlines, they aren't supposed to do this:

Sellers agree not to knowingly participate in any way in the advertisement, sale or trade of any numismatic material using any deceptive practices including, but not limited to, false or misleading claims of sales scarcity, value, condition or investment potential.

An example of a "$200,000" coin that's really worth $30 and sold for $810.

If that crap doesn't violate the policy, I don't know what does.

I'll take a look at some of their current auctions and see if they're still using that jargon. If they are, I'll report it under the new policy and see what happens.

I just filed a complaint with eBay about the $11,000 Franklin.
    When in doubt, don't.
  • I'm definately with you on this one Eric. This bozo is hyping this garbage and taking advantage of the people who don't have a clue.

He links to the PCGS pricing guide and doesn't even have enough sense to quote the actual number ? He inflates the PCGS price for the grade to astronomical proportions.

I would suggest a few complaints to eBay from members might get someones attention. ? Hopefully ?

Jail would be ok. But I'd rather see him put in a room full of people who have been ripped by them.
Does anyone know these people personally? I'm just curious if this sort of thing is just coin related or this is how they run the rest of their affairs. When do the sellers have to start following the new e-bay rules?

This would be a great acid test to see if ebay will do anything.

Let's see just how serious eBay is - particularly when it's one of their Power Screwers.

Don't forget "Dale earnhart will be missed". He always quotes MS65 prices for circulated coins.

As a seller he will have a bunch of complaints ... but do they need to be on the same item to get eBay's attention?

With this statement in their auctions:

" Suggested Price Guide/Potential Asset Value:

CoinMovers primarily relies on the Collectors Universe Price Guide (Price Guide) for pricing. We have chosen to use the services of this price guide because it is widely regarded as both a foremost authority and most easily accessible resources on coin prices. In the event that a coin in our auctions does not show a value in the price guide, CoinMovers does their best to assign a value that indicates the potential asset value of the coin measured within the proximal relationship of existing price guide dynamics. The price guide is only one of many indicators of the value of a coin."

I doubt eBay can act against them.

Another reason PCGS should eliminate that silly price guide.
We are finite beings, limited in all our powers, and, hence, our conclusions are not only relative, but they should ever be held subject to correction. Positive assurance is unattainable. The dogmatist is the only one who claims to possess absolute certainty.
