Done good

Went to my local dealer monday in an attempt to swap some of that worthless vintage postage for some hard wampum.
kinda went like this
Dealer "i dont really want it,i have plenty"
Me " should i put it up on the bid board ? "
Dealer " best plan"
Me " i have this Bell plate block (better date, bought it in a moment of sapitude on flea bay cause it was cheap, like 28 bucks couple weeks ago) wanna swap ?
Dealer "wadja want to trade for (i thinks a sealed 57 proof set is a good deal).
Me when my mouth opens,i says " a couple sealed 57 proof sets "
Dealer "sounds good"

I think that's a heck of a deal. Ask him if he'd do that same swap for my Bell plate block!

  • Kranky,
i got so much postage i could prolly swap him stuff for the rest of my life.
this from the "mythical" collection i found in the attic, only this one is real.
but,if you follow stamps at all,you know 95% of it just about worthless.im tearing stuff up everyday for postage !
and what are you doing with a SCOTT 893 anyway ?
also,if you follow my post's about my local dealer,i asked one partner(the swapper) monday how long he has been with the firm.

    40 years !

You know, I never thought I'd say this, but there actually is one thing I despise more than threads about sample slabs: threads about stamps. Where are the OT police when you need them? Probably hangin' with a bunch of YN's, I guess.

I have a widow friend who's husband collected US stamps from about 1938-43. Lots of singles, plate blocks, FDCs, postal stationery. She asked me to sell it for her and I've been trying to find someone who would pay something reasonable. It's tough. I sometimes wonder what this hobby would be like if coin price guides were like they are for stamps. A stamp with a catalog value of $100 might retail for $60, and you could sell yours to a dealer for $25. Talk about markup!

So technically it's not my 893, but I'd be glad to swap for two sealed 1957 proof sets and pay her for the stamps! image

Why does Andy think this thread is about stamps? It's about creative ways to get coins! image
