and its when the govt. started to experement with new ways to print paper money. Currently they print money 1 side at a time. and so the govt started to try new ways to print the money ( 2 sides at once) to make it go faster and more productive. i guess it didnt go well since they dont do it anymore ( that i know).
but they made a series of them to see how they would last i guess and as far as i know theyre are 3 known series of bills
1988A
1993
and 1995
i think the only Star Note series is 1988A F *
but they can be told apart cause they dont have the letter in the bottom right ( on the washington head side. instead of H9 or B320 it would say 8 ( any number 1 - 10 ) and on the other side ( where it says ONE in big letters instead of the number being in the lower right side like it always is. its up by the IN GOD WE TRUST next to the T ( numbers run 1-9)
also on the washington head side in the top left where the B3 or A4 is normally found Theres NOTHING.
hard to locate but cool when one finds one in the wild
also ive noticed. they look a little strange from the regular $1. either they look very dark in some places ( like the backround behind washingtons head. ) and other areas they look real light( like on the washington head side where it says ONE and then the green seal( some reason the ONE looks very light to me)
i guess these are the reasons the govt dont do it anymore
1988A CA
and
1988A EI
quite circulated ofcourse, but they're pretty tough to find, they aren't very plentiful
The description of the web press is bascly right, the spider press was a flatbed high pressure manually operated intaglio press that the BEP took to coin shows for demonstrations of intaglio printing. They would print copies of the BEP souvineer cards on the press at the show and then sell them to "lottery" winers. (Tickets were free and if your number was drawn you were allowed to purchase the card for a small amount. And then could immediately resell it to collectors for a substantial profit.) It was called a spider press because of the wheel with six long arms used to move the printing bed through the compression rollers.
At one time,I had over 500 Web Notes that i took out of cercirtulation, sold One for $300.
I still have about 150 left,some very nice(no cu's).
I'd trade some of my notes for Morgan Dollars, drop me a PM.
I haven't found a Web note in change for some time but keep looking.
