FYI: Info about fake emails from PayPal or eBay

A couple rules to ALWAYS remember when you get emails from PayPal or eBay:

eBay or PayPal will ALWAYS address you by your full registered first and last name in any correspondance they send you. ( NEVER: Dear Customer )

They will NEVER ask for sensitive info like address, passwords...etc... in ANY emails they send you.

NEVER click any links in an email. If you hover your mouse pointer over a clickable link in an email you'll see what the address of the link really is. They'll always be bogus address' hidden in what looks like a real link.

ALWAYS log into your account from the accounts home page.

The log in screen address should ALWAYS start with https: <------- the s means it is a secure site.

  • I have gotten plenty of spoof e-mails regarding PayPal and eBay. Just delete them and never hit any links in the message. If it's actually from eBay or PayPal they will ask you to log into your secure account to provide info. or make any changes needed.
  • Check for misspelled words. I got a paypal msg with choice spelled choise. !!!!BUT!!!! If I knew back when what I know now: The very first e-mail that I received from e-Bay was legit. I ended up being locked out of my account because someone had gotten ahold of our password. Too long of a story to piggyback on someone else's post. But I would read them before discarding them. I've fallen into a bad habit now of not doing that. Just for info: I receive 2-3 spoof e-mails from e-Bay a month that get guaranteened at my local server with viruses in them. Sometimes they are followed by spoof e-mails from one of the credit cards I have.
