and we'll throw in the '52 Mantle and Mays...

Have mine eyes just been opened or am I becoming a nattering nabob of negativity? This auction is too weird. After checking Wendy's feedback, I find that, aside from being Peter Pan's main squeeze, she peddles housewares on the side. So I'm looking at the scans and trying to figure out if that Mantle is real and I scroll down to the shipping and handling, which is quoted as a tidy "standard shipping $450.00". This after describing some wacky payment deal about 25% paypal up front followed by the balance in 3 days - what the heck is this?

Maybe I just need to stop surfing eBay after too much beer and fireworks.....

Edited to add: and who's Watni Terwillinger? It just dawned me - Wendy's kid, out of school for summer vacation, is about to get grounded!

  • I think "Watni Terwillinger" is "Mickey Mantel"s 2nd cousin thrice removed on his mother's side but I've been known to be wrong in the past.

Scam, crime, fraud, cheat, swindler, con, and thief.

These are the only words that describe this auction. It is obvious for two glaring reasons:
    1. The cards of Mays, Tipton, Widmar, Jackie, and Campos are all in PSA holders, yet no mention of that.
    2. Of the boxes of sh1t that you will receive when you "win", there is nothing in any photo showing stoprage for either oversize 1952 cards so prominently offered, nor are their any PSA slabs evident.

I have reported this aromatic pile of steaming excrement that learned how to type (barely) to ebay. Plus, for yuks, I sent this note to the seller:

    Pal;
You've been reported to eBay and the FBI for intent to defraud and attempted wire fraud. You do not own these cards as it is clear they are stolen scans of cards in PSA holders. This evidence has been passed onto law enforcement. If you are smart, you will end this auction and delete all evidence of stolen images before you get a knock at the door.
  • $450.00 for shipping, are they being escorted by the police? Along with the seller?

You have to admit, it is kind of endearing that somebody would list the cards in this order. I don't even think "Watne Terwillinger" and Fred Marsh's mothers would list them ahead of "Mickey Mantel" and "Wille Mays". No. 7 in the listing is the renowned "Andy Paino". If you look at the picture of "Pafko" (might have been taken from outer space), it does sort of look like it says "Paino".

I am going to bid, not because of the PSA 9 Jackie Robinson pictured in the lower right, but because I want nothing more than to spend a week wading through 60,000 cards, all commons, most held together by rubber bands, and all from the years 1995 and 1996 (actually, I think I see a 1997 in that box on the left). That is the true lure of auctions like this. Yeah, buddy.

  • On what basis would Ebay end this auction? Ebay must get a zillion of these reports a day, many on honest auctions from people who don't understand them. Unless you can scare the seller into ending them, or prove to Ebay that you own the scans he stole, what is Ebay to do?

Well... I emailed this clown to tell him he was reported to eBay... he replied that he owns the cards and won them at an auction and was turining them over honestly.

I took him at his word and replied that I found his use of PSA holdered cards to be very suspicious along with the omission of any vintage boxes or binders among the many shots of flotsam and jetsam he posted. I suggested he provide scans of the entire slabbed cards and indicate the grades in his auction. This way, he would alleviate bidders' fears and let them bid confidently. (I still didn't believe he had the cards, mind you.)

Well, this was he reply. You be the judge.

I am not a baseball card collector thetas why I haven't mentioned any of those things. I used to collect along time ago but still really new nothing about them. I don't know what grading even is, Maybe I should have done some more investigating before I put these on but I have no reason to try and make money from something that in the end I would just end up loosing any way. I understand that the new cards are crap but they came with everything I bought in the auction so I have no use for them, just to sell them with the other cards. Thanks for you information I will add that to the auction. What is the PSA?If you have any more information I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks,
    Jason

here is a thought... make your auction look like a 12 year old made it so when you get busted you can blame it on your 12 year old son so you won't go to jail.

My theory (since being involved in a teenybopper crime earlier this year) is that grown-up scumballs are using kids to run their frauds. This why so many of these big-money cons read like they are written by a 7th-grader who doesn't pay attention in class.

Guys... another success story! Auction was ended by the seller.

I guess he got spooked enough to run... this turd was obviously trying to pull someone's leg... at least he knows there are people onto his methods, so hopefully this discourages him enough so he doesn't bother any more.

I dug a little deeper and looked at the bidding history. At the time the auction was stopped, there were 3 bidders who had plugged at least a thousand bucks - not one of them were card collectors. Tools, clothes, trinkets and the third one had 5 or 6 feedbacks, all from the same seller, who happened to be the seller of this auction.

I've often wondered if these sort of auctions are actually elaborate money laundering schemes....image
