  • i've been drinking coors light for a good 9 hours, but i'll take a guess- he's trying to sucker people who don't read the auction description. what the hell is he selling, a photograph of the card? cardboard cutout?

i sent him a nasty email, i'll let you know if he responds
  • Greedy, illiterate, idiots bid on the “reprint”. I don't believe any of this stuff is licensed so hopefully they'll get sued or better yet, locked away. The other one is real.

funny thing abt all this is the legit one is being sold by a guy named imposter something or another and is using the pvt auction, the bogus one is being sold by a guy with great feedback, powerseller etc etc etc .....lol

<===and im stone cold sober and am confuggled
    Good for you.
  • I really don't understand why someone with the feedback of this seller would be selling a reprint Babe Ruth 1/1 card. Makes you think that he may have been fed a line by someone else and is blindly putting it up for auction and not feeling guilty since he used the word "reprint" a couple of times.

I also don't understand why there were so many bids on something called a "reprint", but there's lots of bids on eBay that make no sense.

Anyways, I had e-mailed the seller about the card and asked where he got it, etc. He replied back with "Bob, it's a special card that was given to only a few of the biggest Donruss dealers in the country. I have only seen 2 of these ever." I've confirmed with Donruss though that they had nothing to do with any "reprint" or "promo" cards like this, so he is either not telling the truth himself or simply passing on the story that was told to him.

Either way, the card is worthless.

Maybe it's a replica that was part of a Donruss promotional display or something along that line.

Either way it sucks - and I don't drink.

To answer the question in the thread title. You're missing getting ripped off. Congrats for spotting another scam.

The drinking members of this group aren't fooled, but some other drinkers apparently think this is the real thing (why else are they bidding so high?) Hopefully they sober up before the auction ends and before one of them buys this item.
  • The funny thing is that he states another one recently for $6,100, and it is a 1/1!

PT Barnum is a alive and well! I'd like to see the listing of the first "reprint" that sold for $6100... also, he says it has a replica jersey in it... makes me think this is some kind of recreation of the original with little bits of rag standing in for the real jersey... wonder if the sig is a facsimile or just someone's own handwriting... bighurt, you're right about the 1/1... maybe the original was, but this is just a piece of crap that he'll keep turning out until someone stops him... maybe Donruss/Playoff should be made aware of this auction? Anyone know how to contact them?

The $6100 auction listing (used to be here) is no longer available. Looks like something is moving on the eBay side with the auction.

However, click here to see another 1-day auction that the same seller as the $6100 card just ran yesterday with a high bid of $759.

I'm in direct communication with Donruss on these auctions and they are fully aware of each auction and have made clear that the cards are in no way real and that they are watching all of this closely. I'll keep you updated on what comes of any of this.

Promo cards given to dealers, probably. What the hell, the guy is up front about it being a promotional card and a reprint. You can sell anything to humans.. Tell me people who inhale killer tobacco smoke into their lungs for decades have a grip on value...imageimageimageimage

According to Donruss, they were not.

  • well, could there have been 2 1/1 created? if you look at both the autos, they look different. the one that sold for $14,000 has a small mark beside the "B" in babe and something written under ruth plus the auto is all the way to the right. the one that sold for $1,651.33 has no mark beside the "b" in babe, nothin written under ruth, and the auto is not all the way to the right. but who knows, with today's computer wizards, anything can be created. image
