Any chance this is a solid gold Kennedy that was struck, afterhours at the Mint?

(Yeah, I know... but it sure would have been cool...) image

Gold plated. These were popular a few years ago. I'm surprised that PCI slabbed it without any notation, however....usually they do.

Gold plated, and PCI slabbed it! I think I've seen it all now.

How can they possibly call it mint state when it's gold plated? They're not even able to see the actual coin underneath the plating.

Mayby PCI should take the fall after ACG is buried.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

I'm not so certain that the Kennedy is gold plated (I think it's not). I have some raw Kennedy halves that have toned a solid gold color (quite attractive), and I have several still in US Mint set cellophane. I have some gold toned Ikes, and Jefferson nickels also.

I doubt PCI would have slabbed a gold-plated coin in a green-label slab without noting it. More'n likely, it's the lighting in the picture.

Actually all I did was slightly lighten the picture to see the details better. The coin itself is a bit darker gold in real life.
