This coin is one of my favorites. I'm interested in your opinions. It's in an old NGC holder.

There are virtually no detracting marks. There is a tiny contact mark on the left side of the bust line and the die crack. Other than that, it's a beautiful coin. Luster is fantastic. The reverese ahs no contact marks at all. It's in an old NGC holder.

Ms64-65 is my opinion on a coin with this type of toning. I can see some small marks on the obverse- above the 9 and on the neck and also a couple of whispy ones in the fields. The luster looks good but not the knock your socks off type that would get the grade of MS66 or higher. mike

Old NGC slab means it probably was graded 65 possibly 66.

PCGS would accept this as a MS-65 or MS-66 today. NGC would probably grade this MS-67 today.

No MS-67 since there is activity in the fields. Luster very nice. Also strike is nice on the obverse and ok on the reverse; a little weak in the leaves on the right side above the letters LL AR of DOLLAR.

It's in an MS64 holder and maybe it is due to the type of toning. The luster is much better than the picture shows. IMO opinion it's under graded.

  • With the toning shown, I feel that the 64 grade is correct. The eye appeal of the coin is really negatively impacted IMHO.

AU 58. That seems to be the grade most people put on pictures. I call it AU 64.

    Crack it and Dip it!

Actually, I had thought of that, but I would be afraid to lose the luster. Thanks for the opinions.

In my experience that type of toning and luster can be pretty iffy to dip and get good results- I would just leave it the way it is. mike
