Silver Proof Quarter Question

Hello all,

So I received my order of 25 sets of Silver Proof Quarters... As I'm going through them, I am finding that most (21 of 25) of the Florida quarters have "a smudge" or haze right smack in the center of the field below the space shuttle's left wing.
I know there aren't many State quarter fans around here, but of those that are, anyone else have this on their orders?
I'm going to return these to the mint but should I consider them "damaged"? Looks like an appropriate reason to me but I've never sent anything back to the mint. Will there be any hassles from them about this?

  • I havent had a problem like that on the Florida SQ's on the few sets I ordered from the mint this time but I don't think it is uncommon overall. If you are unhappy, definitely send them back. The mint will take them back and either refund your money or give you a substitute. I have never had a problem with them taking returns.. but sometimes you end up waiting a while to get replacement.

Anyone ever had the mint refuse a return?

  • Hi

I had exactly the same problem and sent my set back to the mint for a replacement, I just filled in the return slip that came in the package and wrote damaged. The mint gave me a refund back onto my debit card as they won't cover the shipping cost of the second set. So feel free to return them and expect a refund but remember:
    1. You only get a refund of the cost of the item, not the shipping so you end up losing around $7 - 8 for the initial shipping and the cost to send it back
    2. The mint has sold out of 2004 silver state quarter proof sets. I bought another set from the bay of E but I had to pay significantly more than the mint price. I got a good set though.

  • The only item that I ever had to return to the US Mint was a 2000 Millennium Coinage and Currency set, which I returned because the Sacagawea Dollar was missing. They promptly sent a complete replacement set to me. My only complaint is that the serial number on the $1 FRN in the replacement set is a lot higher than the serial number on the one that I sent back. It was a trade off that I had to make in order to get a complete set that included the burnished Sacagawea Dollar.
